full exhaust help

after plenty of research I've found that my stock exhaust sucks. (Dual cat 1990 camaro 5.7) so I'm looking for a performance replacement set up. Problem is... I can't seem to find the right mix and match setup. Every time I find a set of headers I like, I can't find the y pipe to match for dual cats. and I can't decide on what catback to go with as I'm more worried about performance than the cool sound. I've heard magnaflow has the best mixture of the two. Is that true? I consider myself mechanically inclined and I have a welder but I'm not a pro. Im trying to keep the cost below 1000$ and I don't want to mod my undercarriage to make it fit. Nor do i want to sacrifice ground clearance for long tube headers and a true dual. What if a installed a set of shorty headers, brought a muffler and hi flow cats to an exhaust shop and had them fab up the rest. is it reasonable to think I can do this for under a grand? Or would it be worth it to try and piece a system together in the garage? If so can anyone give suggestions on part numbers/setups for headers/dual cat y pipe/catback? Would it be worth it to switch to a single cat system? I found a flowtech header/single cat y pipe combo for 350$ but I hear dual cat systems have better performance.

Forget about the dual-cat system unless you are trying to keep your car factory stock. They have all sorts of hi-flow converters now much better than the old ones and you will only need one. I suggest hooker headers and matching y-pipe, a good hi-flow converter maybe a magnaflow, and Summit or Jegs 3in catback exhaust system. I cannot stress 3in enough. You should be able to do this for around a grand even if you have to have someone weld up the exhaust.

Re: full exhaust help

Using craigslist I made a system for a friend fairly cheap was about 400 for everything.

Hooker 2460 headers, dougs Y pipe D901 with 3" mod, universal highflow cat and magnaflow exhaust should work well and not cost too much.

Also leave flowtek headers where they belong in the trash

Re: full exhaust help

Looks good. Might give that a try. What headers did you bolt that y pipe to?
