Just thank GM for using that dash for the last 2 years. Its not cost effective for a company to designe a bezel for a car only produced 2 years.

That being said, I don't know why there isn't a board member making them. You could easily clear 100 bucks a unit if you did.

Well, for your fiberglass and carbon fiber, go here: http://www.fibreglast.com/ Local company to me and I have heard only good things about them. They have a forum there too so you can ask any questions you might have.

For the plexi, I'd say try Select Products: http://www.selectproducts.com/ They have a good selection that I've seen. There are a couple other companies, but I can't think of them at the moment.

I have the same problem, but since I'm wanting to run about 10 gauges I'm gonna go with the 4th gen firebird dash so I can run 3 gauges where the cenrer vents are and 3 on the a pillar.

Yep, covan makes them and the prices were taken from summitracing.com. You can buy them from covan for the same price though.

Well, I made one for myself that I think turned out pretty well. I managed to fit 7 guages and turn signal indicators into it as well as an autometer shift light. Heres a link to some pics of it.

I used the Autometer 5" Tach and Speedo, and the 2 1/16" Fuel Level, Trans Temp, Oil Press., Water Temp., and Volts.

I guess if there was some interest, I could make some up and sell them. Let me know what you guys think.

Not bad at all. Those are 2 1/16" guages? They look smaller, but i guess thats b/c you went with 5" tach and speedo when i went with the smaller ones. Any pictures of them installed?

Noo, Not yet, but I can get some. They aren't in the car yet but it would be real easy to just bolt the bezel in and snap some photos. I will try to do that this weekend. I also made one out of Clear Plexiglass and then covered the back side of it in Brushed Aluminum Vinyl. It looked killer until I put the guages in and when I did the clamps on the back of the guages wrinkled the vinyl up and made it look like crap. I could make them out of the plexiglass though and use just about any color someone would want. I still have the plex one layin around so I will snap a couple shots of it too.

you culd always buy those sunpro style guage pods that hold 3 guages and then hang those under the air vents in the center, an dif you don't run heater and stuff you could put more guages inplace of that in the console..just a thought, i'm doin mine kinda the same , a 5" tach on the dash 3 on the vents and my n20/fuel pressure on the a-pillar, you could also just cut a custom panel out of sheet metal, use the stock bezel as a template and then cut oput as many holes as you want

i found the speedo and misc stuff i want in 5 inch guages but they dont make a tach in the same style
theres a big 5 inch speedo with a big 5 inch 4 n 1 guage for gas/oil/temp/batt but it would be nice to find a matching tach to do 3 5 inch across and keep it almost the same as stock

If you are wanting to know if you can get it with just those provisions, then yes, I could probably do that for you and you could situate it how you want with the guages that you want.

Email me with any questions or anything that you might have if you want to get one.

LT1VertIROC....that is the nicest example of a custom gauge cluster I've seen for an 82-89 Camaro yet! I'm wanting to do something similar for my 91 camaro if I ditch my idea for a 4th gen firebird dash. Even if I use it, I will still make a custom cluster for my AutoMeter Ultra Lite gauges.

Ok, I was out workin on the cars this weekend and I threw the guage cluster into my parts car (its the only one that currently has the dash installed in it!!). I snapped off some pics and put them in my gallery located here
The pics aren't the greatest but it gives you a good idea.

Ohh, and nevermind the GMC steering wheel, I guess it was all the guy had that I bought the car from

Alright, not 5 inch but you get the idea. I just made this out of wood. I made my cuts and then painted. I started with a semi black as a primer. Then I painted a couple of coats of the "Hammered" look spray paint. Once the finish looked fine I sprayed it with a coat of the semi gloss black again. Cheap and fairly easy.

Electric guages are pretty easy to install. They come with a sender and you usually only have to hook up a couple wires.

If anyone would like to get one of the bezels that I have then PM or email me and I can get some made. I guess the price would depend on if you want it blank, or with different guage layouts.

Later,
Eli

if I can get my hands on a 91-92 style dash Or dash trim plate I can make Many different setups the last one I did was in a 86 camaro with 5"speedometer 5" Tach and 2-2 5/8" autometers that were flush mounted so that the dash plate was Even with the top to the Trim Bezel. Looks Great, didn't get any pics. I will call the dude tomorrow and see if he will let me take some Pics.

The Guage Panel was made out of a sheet of ABS plastic that I cut in correct shape, cut out the holes then did some fiberglassing, MDF Trim Rings. Sand Everything down And Used some Hammerd finished paint covered with black, gives that factory texured look.

just wish I had a 91-92 dash Handy

well, It looks alright, but I think you are goin to run into interferance issues with the bezels of the guages. The bezels hang over about 3/16" all the way around which means that you need atleast 3/8" clearance between the mount holes.
Just my observation. If you look at the way I made mine, with 2 1/16" guages, that worked out really well as far as layout goes.

If you have enough clearance the way it is designed, go for it, it looks good.

Thankyou for the input i did take it into consideration for the 5" gauges but never thought of the smaller ones and the 2 outer most gauges are damn close to the outer edge

Are all of those holes made with autometer gauges in mind ? Reason I ask is because they generally have that lip, and in those small openings above the speedo opening, that could cause an issue.

Here's how I set up the Ultra-Lites in my '91 dash. The Speedo and tach are 3 3/8" and the rest are all 2 1/16". I didn't want the clutter of high beam and turn signal indicators, so I mounted LEDs in the blank panel below the headlight switch to cover those functions.

Pardon the lack of a dashpad.....I'm still working on the stereo wiring.

Here's a shot to better show the texture of the panel. I used 16ga sheet steel and coated it with 4 light layers of Duplicolor's black aerosol bedliner. The texture is VERY close to that of the dash.

Thanks......for what I paid for those gauges it better.

I actually got most of them for cheap off eBay, but the speedo I had to get new. That thing's expensive too.....nearly $200 by itself. Had to have it though....needed a programmable electronic gauge to work with the T56.

Here is what I think is funny. CovansClassics charges $130.00 for there wiring Harness For there Guage Set ups. Some one should see how much it would cost to make these for people or do a how to. Here is a link to Covans IP Harness. http://covansclassic.com/parts/descr...94465.54.98.23

Wiring these gauges up is not exactly difficult. The Autometers are all just "power, ground, sensor" 3-wire hookups. The pain is running wires from the sensors through the firewall to the gauge panel.

Making the panel was easy. I borrowed a couple bi-metal holesaws from a guy I know and just layed the gauges face down on the panel to see how they'd fit. Trace around the gauge, find the center of the circle, and drill. The hard part was mounting it.....the way the stock gauges mount just wasn't going to work so I made brackets out of 1/8" x 3/4" bar aluminum.

As in how well are they lighted at night? I can see them almost as clearly as I can during the day, but I didn't use the colored bulb covers in them. Those things make them quite a bit harder to see. I wired the bulbs through the dimmer switch and the dimmer function works just fine too.

A few guys have tried using the LED "194 replacement" bulbs in them, and I don't think they provide enough lighting either. The problem with LEDs is that the gauge faces are lighted from the front by reflection.....LEDs aren't particularly good for reflective lighting (the light is too concentrated.)
