which brake adaptor material to use?

What is the most common matrial to use in making brake brackets?? I found some cold rolled flat bars. I think 1018 steel. Or would tool steel be better??

Tool steel is Super strong but brittle, and prone to breaking. Not the best situation for brakes. are you wanting to make backing plates?Mild steel plate @ .250 thickness would be my choice.:lala:
