I'd say .. sure it could be fabricated.. anything is posible. Looking at it .. my guess would be fiberglass (best choice). the shape looks pretty simple overall.. Or perhaps it could be made out of the same plastic. But the modifications to the fenders might require a total replacement of the fender... Not sure.. unless it just follows the same line as the factory GFX..

Overhang, what overhang?!?! OOOHHHH THAT overhang, yeah officer there is some weight over the rear tires... j/k
Actually that looks really similar to the prototype 3rd gen. Not at my computer or I'd see if I could host the picture.
Figures it was a factory prototype . Does look too good to be aftermarket. Too bad, cuz it flows better than any other attempt at ground effects Ive seen for our cars. Kinda reminds me of the Monte Carlo SS nose.
Originally posted by camarors8992 if you have the $$$ you can take that picture to someone who is good with fiberglass and he may be able to create that for you.
A guy on here made himself the Z28 ground effects portion on his bumper from scratch, so I'd assume that this wouldn't be difficult at all.
To make different front clips and ground effects they start with molding clay and stick it right on the car. they shape and shape till everything looks right and even. "thats the talent" Then they make forms from the clay stuck to the car. If anyone watched foose customize the cadi's on rides they show exactly how they do it. It is a art you have to be a good. but once the molds are made you can make as many as you want. From my understanding of the process the molds is the hardest and most time consuming part of the processes, But correct me if I am wrong.

The hardest part is coming up with enough of the cash for someone to go through the trouble of making the molds!!!
I think using styrofoam and a bread knife for shaping the nose piece would be easiest way to go. Here's some pics of my fiberglassed nose.. I lowered about an inch, closed the fender vents, and made the angles straighter.
i just noticed in the first pics that the date shows jan. 1, 1999. if that's right, is the last pic as far as you've gotten? or are there newer pics?? i'm really interested in this cause i like seeing rare, custom stuff. i like making it too!

It's all been done in the last month or so, the last pic I posted with the headlights is the most recent taken yesterday. I've got about a month to finish the car before power tour!!
Picked up a few gallons of poly resin, it was on sale after rebate ended up being 18bux a gallon from advance auto. I now have more than enough to finish the hood, fenders, and whatever else I decide to do in the future (door skins?).
Ordered some fiberglass materials today from www.uscomposites.com . Chopped strand mat for strengthening the underside of my hood "skin" and fenders (if I have time to make the fenders before power tour!).
Also ordered some sanding aid to add to the top layer of resin. This stuff is actually hollow glass beads that *should* turn the resin into a filler type material like bondo. The type of work I'm doing is male molds, female molds would be a lot cleaner and probably wouldn't need this filler material to end up with a flat, smooth finish.
I couldn't resist ordering a few yards of carbon fiber clotch to play with. Probably end up using it for the fenders and paint over them. I do like the look of carbon fiber, I don't think I'm experienced enough to end up with a good enough finish for cosmetic use though. Besides, that stuff belongs on four bangers. I should probably use epoxy for the CF for the added strength and that's what I reccommend that others do. I'll see how they turn out using the poly resin I've been using with the fiberglass though.
I'll post again with pic's when I have more work done.
i think that looks very aggressive looking. if you make the opening in the front end a little larger and then put some chrome mesh in there I think it would look absolutly awsome.

it's a firebird. not a camaro. perhaps we should call you corkey.
i would not want my bird to look like that but . i have nothing but respect for the amount of effort (not to mention balls) of you trying somthing like that. it will looka awsome when it is done, i can't wait.
EDIT
i just realised KiLLJ0Y was talking about the camaro the post is about, not the firebird who hijacked it.

Funny how it happened! I had to go up to see what you ment. I too had forgotten about the camaro.
The front bumper cover is looking pretty good, a few thin spots after smoothing it down with the grinder, all the high spots were ground flat making the material pretty thin in some spots. I'll have to reinforce those from the back side before I do any more sanding on it. Started making the fenders with carbon fiber and the first one turned out niiiice, It'll be a shame to sand it and throw paint over it! The hood bracing is giving me problems, can't seem to make it stiff, light, AND straight enough for paint. I might scrap my first attempt and start another hood, this whole thing has been a learning experience and I'm sure I could get a better piece the second time around.
*sorry on hijacking the thread here, I'll try and keep it related to the fiberglass nose I'm building. I will post up a new thread when the whole project is finished and drop a link, that won't be for a couple of weeks though until I can get back over here to use the computer again.
How many of you are really interested in a good looking body kit for the 3rd gen Camaros?
Reason I ask is I make body kits for 1st gen Camaros, and I own a 92 that I'd really like to modify.
To those wondering how the OEM's do a body kit they start with a concept drawing. Here is my 68 Camaro concept drawing:
My artist did multiple angles, and references for the clay modeling portion, here are a few samples:
At this point we take the car to a studio, where it is placed on a flate plate, leveled, and wood/foam are put around the car for the application of the clay:
Then we fine tune the clay, and produce molds directly from it:
The next step is to test fit the first molded part (usually in fiberglass) to the car:
After we sand, and mold the first kit to the car, we make a production mold from the fiberglass kit, to produce a final part that requires no sanding, or bondo to be painted. We then make a complete kit in carbon fiber, primer it, and send it off to the client.
Do you guys have an interest in this sort of thing?
Too late to it leave alone.
The entire car is built on a tube chassis, with a C5 drivetrain, and T56 transaxle. All but the roof and rear 1/4's are carbon fiber, and this car will hit well over the 170 mph mark. The body kit is more for downforce than looks.
Hondas can't back up ****. My cars can. HOT ROD magazine sure that it was sweet when they put it in their 20 hottest project car article not too long ago.
Anyways, finished body kit pic looks much like the version you see in the pics- primered. It is not mounted on the car at current, plus the car is in Cali getting body work done, and the body kit is in my shop here in Vegas.
Feel free to click on my sig to go to my website where you can see the build up of the chassis, as well as a bunch more of the body kit process.

No offense...but to hell with what this guy says... that looks pretty smooth and i'd like to see it finished. Better yet I wonder how interested in fabricating something like the original post you would be ?( IROC II)
Teetoe_Jones, are you on pro-touring.com forums as well? Seems like I've seen your car somewhere before, not in Hot Rod. Looks HOT!!!
Of course I'd be interested in a version of that for TA's and Camaros. It seems all of the body kits that were ever made for 3rd gens look like they were inspired by Batman crossed with a Testarossa. As long as the body kit looks something more like yours, vs. a Bat-arossa, I'd be tempted to buy one...

Normal is boring, stock is boring. Those who say "if it isn't broke don't fix it" just don't get it. If we wanted stock, then you wouldn't be on the Fabrication forum, you'd be on the Look How Pretty My Stock Car Is forum.
I love bodykits, but not when they are too over done. That body kit looks sweet, and I too would love finalized pics. If you ever decided to make a kit for the Firebird crowd, I'll be saving my pennies!
wow that concept drawing is awesome. personally, i hate rear bumpers like that, but the rest of the kit is awesome. a third gen kit might be tough to come up with since the stock form goes so well with the car. maybe if you have a concept drawing for that. however, if you produce a nice, tastefully done concept, you will get a ton of people saying that is awesome, i want one, sign me up, etc. then when you decide to actual go forward with production and you ask for deposits, everyone will disappear and you'll be left with like 3 people actually willing to put their money down.

wow. so, perhapse not everyone thinks hondas look "gay" with body kits. i personaly have seen three "import tuner" style cars that looked halfway respectable. one of witch i would even be seen driving.
secondly, while i do prefer the stock look, as you clearly do as well, i browse this board to support and provide CONSTRUCTIVE critisisms on others projects in hopes of bettering them. comments like yours are destructive and uncalled for. perhaps you would feel more at home posting on a forum like this one:http://usuck.com/ (no joke it's a real site!)

i do admire the work, i just dont like the styling.. (IMO) Thats all i am saying.

I love that. .. .
i just rather see it stock body.. i did not mean to sound like a @$$ when i sayed that, i apolize.

Project 50/50 looks amazing.
I have an 88 and was wanting to put on a 91-92 kit just cause the front end looks so much better.
Teetoe_Jones -- I've been following the 50/50 project on corner-carvers for years!
I would love to see a well made, and functional body kit made. I have plans to some composite work to my car, but between other projects, I just have not had the time nor money to get started.
