I plan to put a GM 8.5" ten bolt under my car, I've got it figured out how I'm going to do it, but I still need to get a rear. my execution of the swap should make the rear stronger than stock too.
do you have more pics of how you did your 8.8 swap?
Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
Thanks, I like the way you fabbed that up, it looks pretty stout. it I ever get around to the 8.5 swap, I'll be sure to take lots of pics, my idea is definately very different from yours though. Alot of the T-Type guys run 8.5 rears, the were the factory rear in grand nationals, and can take one hell of a beating.

Some really great work Evil!!! Good to see I'm not the only one who chooses to make my own vs. settling for "store bought" parts of questionable quality or origin!!!! Very nice work!!! Just do us "geezers" a favor and teach some of your skills and talent to a couple of the kids who are into Hot Rods....got to pass on these skills to a new generation of Hot Rodders!!!!!
Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
Hell I'm still learning myself haha Learning quite a bit more on body work after starting work on my '66 El Camino. Patch panels, full quarter replacements and getting rid of rust, ugh. All the stuff I did on the Camaro's paint job was easy stuff.
Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
know what ya mean!! Been doing this stuff 45 years and still learn something new on every project!!! Project that showed up last week is a brand new 'glass roadster body, and building a brand new frame, almost feel like I'm cheating without having to start by replacing both quarters and half the floor!!!! An easy one for a change, probably get spoiled!!!

They evidently don't do off shore racing marine intakes with custom EFI either. So whats your point. There is more to High Tech then intake systems evidently.

Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
Theyre Not Done Yet, I Am Being Held Back Thanks To Some Black Plastic Epoxy And A Bit More Masking Tape I Dont Have Yet, But They Are In The Works Of Being Some Sweet Grey Lens Tail Lights For My 83, Keeping The 82-84 Look Instead Of The Newer Checkered Lens Look, Here Are The Pics I Took As I Was Going Along To Get Where I Am Now:
Started With Stockers And Used A Hot Knife To Cut Out Just The Colour Parts Of The Lenses
Camaro Tail Light Without Colour Lenses And The Black Plastic Part Next To The License Plate
Side By Side Of Colour Lens Vs. Grey Acrylic
Used A Heat Gun On High Heat To Soften The Acrylic And Made The Bend For The Corner
A Little Black Paint To Darken Some High Contrast Areas On The Bottom
And Tape To Get My Guide For The Inside, To Know Where To Put My Black Paint For Borders And The Center Stripe
Ill Continue My Progress Hopefully Not Too Much Longer, Just Painting Lines And Some Adhesive, Coloured Light Bulbs Or LEDs And These Should Be Pretty Epic, No One In My Small Town Has Anything Like This, Just The Crappy Spray Paint loL
Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
Thanks, Only One Light At A Time Though, I Have Almost No Income Right Now So Fixing Up The Camaro Has Been Hard And Slow. That Sheet Of Acrylic Is $25. I Should Find A Better Way To Roll The Corners, I Had A Little Bit Of Warpage But No Big Deal To Me. With This Way Id Like To Do Pure Red Lenses And White Fogged Lenses, And See What Comes Of Them!

If you back off a bit on the heat gun temperature and spread the heat evenly over a bit wider area, then a pass or two at the bend point just prior to bending the acrylic there is considerably less warpage!!!! I've used the very same method to make windshields, curved side and rear glass, etc. for drag and street cars. With a bit of practice you'll get the hang of it!!!!! So far, your work looks really good!!! Just take your time and stay at it, they'll definitely be unique when you're finished!!!!!! Good job!!!!!!

loL Actually Low Heat Wasnt Doing Anything But Making It Warm The High Heat Was Enough To Get There Within 10 Minutes Without Thinning Out Or Changing The Colour Of The Acrylic, Which Ive Seen When I Randomly Decided To Torch Some Pieces Of The Old Lens, They Turned Non Transparent From Too Much Heat Haha. The Warpage Came From Bending It On The Light Itself Cus It Was A Smaller Area Trying To Bend A Large Piece! The License Plate Lights Are Also Being Covered By The Acrylic And I Used Two Pieces Of Glass To Make That Bend, And It Was Almost Flawless (: Next Time Ill Use A Closet Hanger Rod Or Something To Make The Bend, In Theory There Should Be No Warpage, But Thanks For The Advice!
Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication

I've read about building a form for the Acrylic/lexan to mold to, and then heating it over the form in an oven at just the right temperature. Either could use a tube/pipe with a couple of flat panels or a thicker piece of metal with a curve of the same radius.

Oh Kinda Like Watching The Acrylic Melt Into Shape Without It Turning Into Goop And Loosing A Sheet? That Sounds Interesting, Ill Have To Look Into It And Study Techniques (: Thanks
This Build Is Just My First Practice, So I Know What I Can Do And Not To Do, And What Should Be Better And Could Be Better.
Is It Fine To Leave The White Reflector In The Tails? Or Do I Need Red? I Think I Can Add Separate Red Reflectors Under The Rear Bumper If I Have To, But Make It Look Good
Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
heres mine after i painted it. turned out good but now ive got plans to tear down and install a roll cage and maybe a mini tube depending and repainting the whole thing again lol. let me know what ya think
Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
You guys all just about dwarf me in the creativity and fabrication department. Here is my only claim to fame.
I wanted a Banshee but I couldn't justify spending 2 grand on one. So I went out and bought a rolling chassis for $300, a bike without a title for $500, and probably $200 in paint, materials, sprockets and other misc parts.
never again will I bring a quad to 130+ MPH... tried topping it out, ran out of room with pretty much 2 gears left. Now that I think about it, I can't believe I even attempted that on quad tires.
First day at the track, didn't expect it to hook up cause I could dump the clutch at like 4 grand on the street and just spin them until smoke billowed out. Well it hooked up very hard at 2,500 RPM and stood strait up. I had all 180 lbs over the handle bars and still ended up dragging my feet behind it. Stayed up through 1st and 2nd sandbagging it, got off the gas in third and my axle walked sideways on me.
This was a video when the motor was first in it, at the time I was shifting with a pair of vice grips and had open headers still: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDK06WGOR-M
Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
I've had quite a few requests for it, it's however not cost effective to fabricate these and send them half across the world. So...I attached a DXF of it, you can use it to build one yourself or take it to a machine shop that can punch/laser it out and then bend it and if you choose dimple die it. It's designed to fit a summit direct fit rad but there's room to spare so you can use rubber blocks to secure the rad if you wish. It may need some tweaking as I designed it specifically for my car w. the rad mounted dual spals (in pics above, also designed that bracket)
