Damage that looks good? How did it happen i wonder.

Ihave had many local thirdgeners ask me where i got this center tailight peice for my 1987 FB TA. The thing is..... it is damaged. i bought the car with it. Some how it melted a littlebit around the wings. I wanted to replace it but ive been told it fits with the wings of the bird and that it was and awesome characteristic. So now i am not so sure. What do you guys think. Also does anyone have any idea how this may of happened. I will put up more pics later. The first pic does it little justice as the car is filthy after the tranny blew oil all over the placeName: IMAG0005.jpg

how that happened... well my best guess is reversing to a branch... and on the looking good, well beauty is in eye of beholder, though one could airbrush nice wing extensions with 3d effect to that, but if it would be mine i would just straighten it out.

I actually wanna question something about it other than what you posted about. P O N T I A C on the bottom.

Mine is like that & I see VERY few center pieces that have it. I have P O N T I A C embossed into my rear bumper like usual, but the lettering being on the center section is "rare", as in.....I pretty much never see another one like mine. I think yours make 3 total, in the 5 years I've had mine.

Heat gun. be veeeeeery careful with it tho. Find a broken one from the Junk yard and play with it. Some plastics can be softened in boiling water .
Maybe it was parked a lil to close to the burn barrel ??

mine did something similar but where yours is mostly across the top next to the wings, mine sagged at the bottom by the pontiac logo... I had it sitting under the hatch while rewiring the lights and the interior got hot enough to make mine sag, it wasn't even a particularly hot day... I don't think heating it will fix it unless you can figure out how to apply pressure from inside, I haven't been able to fix mine.

I saw something like this happen to an old cavalier when the muffler rotted out and hot gases poured upward. It's enough to melt stuff. Theoretically, the characteristics of how the gas escaped out the top defined where the warping happened. I'd hold on to that thing.
