My Plans for my thirdgen! What are yours?

Alright so I just thought it would be cool share my plans for my 1992 Camaro RS.

So I just recently replaced the struts and my alternator. I have sway bar links all ready to go and be installed very soon, just have to find time. Then after I put those in, I have to re-pack the wheel bearings. (I don't want my wheels folding up underneath me lol.) Then really the only other thing that needs to be done is getting my gas tank cleaned or replaced. Thats all my PRIORITY stuff I'm going to do to make sure my car is in good running condition. I don't want my baby dying on me. It would be a sad day. Now the fun stuff....

I plan on immediately getting a new intake manifold for my car. The edelbrock performer made especially for TBI and painting it black to match the engine, and sanding the edelbrock letters back to cast iron so you can read it easy. I would scrap the old water neck and put a chrome one on it. Then there are some sweet valve covers I would like to get. They are black with red stripes and chevy bow-ties on them. Those two parts are for sure. Now if I'm lucky since I'm only 17, I want to put a higher lift camshaft in it. Preferably the comp cam with .480 intake/exhaust and 112 degree LS with 1.5:1 rocker arm ratio. I would also love to swap the 2.73 rear end gear ratio to a 3.73. Then the hooker headers with AIR compatibility, then attached to that: the Flowmaster American thunder stainless steel cat-back with the 3" ID. Then finally when all of the previous is said and done, a 5 speed manual transmission. When I get done with the stuff that is reasonable to get done as a senior in high school, my car will run beautifully, have a little more punch in the throttle, and look gorgeous under the hood.

I bet at first you were thinking I was going to throw NOS on there and a supercharger, without fixing the important things first like struts or sway bar links. LOL, go-fast parts are not for me, and I want to keep my Camaro in top notch condition. A real engine can haul *** under its own power, even if it is a 305, and a well taken care of Camaro will last forever.

Re: My Plans for my thirdgen! What are yours?

Well, I'll have to give ya pics later, but mine's gotta have a new for pan installed on the driver's side, new Trans mount, probably new k member, too. Then, I'm going to replace my passenger rear panel (packed with bondo), sanded, primed, then painted the deepest, glossiest black of the blacks, all being powered by a twin-turbo'd 350 on a T56 trans with a 3.73 or 4.11 Ford 9" with posi.

Should be fun. And expensive.

Re: My Plans for my thirdgen! What are yours?

i'm hopefully gonna get around to building a proper frame under my car out of some 2X2 tubing that i got from work. this will allow me to make a proper trans crossmember and get rid of the stupid factory underfloor bracing and allow me to easily run a good 2.5" dual exhaust with an X pipe that doesn't hang any lower than the frame rails. the torque arm mount will be moved to the trans crossmember, which opens up possibilities for transmission swaps. also add some bracing in the front end and make a removable strut tower brace to tie the car together better.

all of this will not only tie the car together and make it more solid, but also allow me to jack the car up with the jack placed right under the middle of the doors and make putting it on jackstands into a 30 second operation.

T56

4.11 or 4.56 W/ drop in locker

Full aftermarket suspension

extensive weight reduction while still keeping a "finished" feel to the interior

Re: My Plans for my thirdgen! What are yours?

I've owned it now for nearly 16 years....multiple engines. But...

I'm building a fresh 347 LS1 (3.905 bore) with CP forged pistons. -2.7cc, .175 valve reliefs, ARP rod and main bolts

AI 226cc 243's (complete)
AI 236/242 .630 111LSA cam
Fast 102
Fast 92mm TB
GM 85mm MAF
Homebuilt 4" CAI

I've already got all the major parts, the block, crank, rods, and pistons are at the machine shop. The 243's are finished, the Fast 102 is on the shelf, and at this point it's just the nickel and dime stuff left. Injectors, tune, roll bar, etc. I plan on starting a new build thread soon.

I'll be on the Power Tour 2013 and I'm also planning on running Drag Week. Lets hope I can shift this pile to 10's!

Re: My Plans for my thirdgen! What are yours?

Good thread,
My goal for my car is to see what I can build with out spending any money.
I bought the car almost 2 years ago for $800, and cot me $600 just to bring it home,
It came with a truck load of extra parts, So Sold everything I did not want or need.
If I change some part I sell the what was on it, I build what ever I can, like STB, wonder bar, SFC,
And I have a lot more waiting to be installed just waiting, like my custom 9" ford rear end, So I will sell the old rear,
Total investment to date is a -$583. waiting to be used on the car,
car when I first got it

Re: My Plans for my thirdgen! What are yours?

I need to finish my Spohn k member install and front brake rebuild. So far tubular k member is in along with ebiach drag springs, Spohn a arms, spindles and replacement calipers were painted, put on new rotors, bearings, and pads. I sold my 12.25" rotors kit with 4 piston calipers when I found it wasn't fitting too great inside 15" rims.

Then the y pipe is getting pulled for a o2 sensor bung to be weld to it. I'm not spending 200 again on the dyno session to find more leaks and that my timing was off (was only 29* and pulling 18:1 A/F ratio). Next time hoping for something more respectable in power.

I need to adjust the idle screw mixture on the new carb with my vac gauge. Then check how the jet settings are on the narrowband. If they are close I'll just get it tuned on the dyno.

I've swapped in a replacement 10 bolt with 3.23s since my spider cross gearshafts broke in my 9 bolt with 3.27s. The 9 bolt was weld up solid for temp use in time being if needed. I have a replacement 3 series posi coming to swap back in down the road, but if the motor does what I'm expecting might be time to look into 9" or S60.

I have a LS1 driveshaft ready to swap in just waiting for HP numbers. I really don't feel like pushing the stock slum driveshaft and breaking it taking out my Spohn Torque Arm. Not to mention I would probably just go to a 1350 u joint with a replacement rear end.

I need to fab a console plate for my pro ratchet shifter. I picked up a cheap T handle with button to put on it. I should be able to wire my linelock into that now.

I also have a replacement console lid ready to go on.

I'm still thinking of doing gauges. I have almost all Phathoms ready and a pro comp digital speedo/tach combo.

I still have some Draglites 15x7 and 15x9s. The 9s have some slicks on them but I need to check backspacing as they stick out. If they are 5 or 5.5 bs I will probably get some street tires to use on them. Not much sense keeping the 16x8s now the car has basically drag setup on it. Might was well use some lighter rims.

I still need to put on my air dam side skirts and modify my heater box to fit and get that setup with the diverter valve. I also have rear fender splats to make out of fiberglass and I need to make a mold of the front splats and duck tail spoiler.

Far too much stuff to get done this year...

Re: My Plans for my thirdgen! What are yours?

Well real soon here I want to get the RS running right and if that happens start fixing the little issues like Stater, exhasut, head unit, blower motor. Then the body work.

For the TA just enjoy it and keep the miles low-someday a full stock restore.
