Guess my weight!? What does your car weigh with cage/subframe?

Ok guys im almost finished with the major fab on the car and wanted to get some guess on my weight. I will post a pic of the madness that was my car later.

First of all: What does your car weight with a cage and subframe? Have a 4 wheel weight distribution?

Second: Heres what I got going. Bare with me I know its alot but its almost done!

82 Z
LQ9 408ci, 8-71 TBS blower, no acc just alternator, Th400, ford 9 (cut to 34 inches wide)
Fab firewall moved 8" back, fab trans tunnel, fab entire floor, fab tubs (all 20 ga mild steel)
Full alum fab dash, door panels, 12 gallon fuel cell
Fab 18 point cage (mild steel)
Fully fab frame (2x3 box mild steel, I guess around 25 feet of it)
wheels are 15x14, 15x7 alum
fab rear suspention and panhard, qa1 coilovers
2 Kirkly alum seats
no rear seats because the fronts got moved 10" back and the rest is a tub! lol
Glass hood
Lightwieght carpet on the floor, leather door panel, dash cover, and headliner
Im keeping the power windows, rear glass, and ttops.
One windshield wiper from a 90s toyota
Dual oval 3.5" exhaust exits under doors (about 8 feet total, 2 mufflers, no cats)

An easy way to look at it is that the only thing that was left stock was the outer unibody shell excluding foors.

Weight guesses?

Re: Guess my weight!? What does your car weigh with cage/subframe?

Hard to say. That blower isn't exactly light and a TH400 tips the scales at 130 pounds. Rear window is dead weight. If the chassis is set up properly, you don't need all that extra weight at the rear. Full power option doors are 105 pounds each. When I did my back half, It only removed 20 pounds from the car. My t-tops are Lexan and I can't remember how much weight saving it was. I think it was 5 pounds but can't remember if that was each or total. Probably total.

My gutted out race car sitting on the starting line is roughly 3030 pounds. Car, driver, fuel etc. That's all the weight the engine needs to move down the track. The only time I care what the car itself weighs is when it's in the trailer so I have a tow weight. The last time I stood on a scale, I was around 170 pounds so that would put the car around 2860. I've never 4 corner weighed my car and I have no problems launching straight down the track. A rear anti-roll bar is a necessity with a 4 link suspension.

My car is still nose heavy at roughly 65/55 but may be closer to 60/40 and it didn't stop me from putting it on the rear bumper twice last fall. I had to finally install wheelie bars for 2013.

Considering how much you're adding with the minor weight reduction, the car itself may be close to 3200 pounds. Add in a driver and it gets even heavier. If you really want to know what it weighs and don't have a 4 corner scale set, take it across a truck weigh scale. Stop with the front wheels just on the scale and get a front weight. Drive the whole car on and get a total weight. Drive off and stop with the rear wheels still on the scale for a rear weight. Front and rear should equal the total. Getting the front and rear will help calculate the ratio.

Fab firewall moved 8" back
Is the engine still in the stock location?

Re: Guess my weight!? What does your car weigh with cage/subframe?

Sorry ab the pic I had a family emergency last night. Comming soon!

I wouldnt call this a chasis car but it was made as "safe" as possible in order to shield me from the sub-average drivers in my area . Weight was not major factor inthe build, favoring safety...until i stepped back and realized just how much steel I put in it!
To me it anything under 3500 sounds light. I was thinking more around 3600+ (im 160 lbs) so maybe 3700 with driver? Im still a few months away from getting a acurate weight measure. Im going to try and talk my round track buddy into using his 4 corner scale.
Do you guys know a ballpark stock weight?
Im looking for a quick and safe "street car" out of this build. I would like to run low 10s (hope 9.9s) on a track tune. The engine made 1182.3 fwhp on the engine dyno with e85. Is this an unreasonable goal for a 3700ish lb car?

Re: Guess my weight!? What does your car weigh with cage/subframe?

Ballpark stock weight with a V8 is around 3500 pounds. It really depends on what options the car has.

I weighed all the tubes when I installed my cage. Cage was 190 pounds. You have more or less the same amount of tubes. Couldn't be more than 50 pounds more than mine. Hard to tell without knowing all the tubes sizes and wall thicknesses. I used 1-5/8" tubes where they were required and where I was allowed to use the smaller 1-1/2" or 1-1/4" tubes, I did. Most are 0.134" wall ERW tubing but there's a bunch of 0.120" wall DOM tubing as well.

Re: Guess my weight!? What does your car weigh with cage/subframe?

I dont remember the tubing sizes off hand but I deffinitly didnt skimp on wall thickness or diameters. If I remember right I have 3 different sizes. Either way I look at it I didnt take much weight out of the car and if we are close on the amount of cage, im prob looking at a 3700lb car without driver...I guess that sounds right. Maybe once I dial the car some weight reductions will be instore...

Its looking like Im going to need around 750rwhp to get my 1/4 mile times near my 10.00 goal. That shouldnt be a problem. Thanks for the insight!

My 83 Z hard top in stock trim with ac, 700r4 and manual windows was 3208 with a true 60/40 split, 1900 on the front and 1308 on the rear (no driver).

After cutting all excess items from my third gen and skinning the panels mine is down to 2700 without the driver running a NA Engine with cast iron heads and full cage and 18 gallons in the fuel cell.
