home made chain link steering wheel
hey guys, thought i'd post a few pics of this custom steering wheel i made
using about 1 meter length of 8mm stainless steel chain and an old deteriorated steering wheel from an 84 firebird
i removed the foam from it with a knife, then cut the ring off with an angle grinder, i used the inside of the ring as a template for the chain, then cable tied every 2nd link to it and welded it together on one side
its very much illegal to drive with this on where i live, but i still think its cool to switch it if i take it out to a car show n shine
let me know what you think of it

Re: home made chain link steering wheel
while I must say the fabrication skill's are good . the wheel may be considered cool "DOWN UNDER" . here in the states (by most) it would be considered "GHETTO" . not a slam , but not for me . good fabrication as I said before , but not for me . good luck .

nice fab work.
if you plan on keeping it, i think you should get it chromed or powdercoated.

Love it man.
But, then, I fully embrace the whole white trash stigma of these cars... If the military would let me, I'd grow my ****** back just for summer cruising with the t-tops out.

Not my cup of tea but to each their own... Looks like you did a great job of putting it together and it always makes me do a double take when I see a right hand drive thirdgen.

Re: home made chain link steering wheel
its ok guys, dont worry, i do have a wheel for it in near perfect condition
(the chain one wont actually see road use, i'd be in big trouble if the cops pulled me over)

Re: home made chain link steering wheel
In the states, chain steering wheels are associated with low riders...why is it illegal to have it..

Re: home made chain link steering wheel
as far as i have ever read, the "stock" conversions done in the 80's and 90's were poorly executed, most enthusiast nowadays do their own conversions or have shops do it professionally for better results
