I'm very sad lol.. no one wants to trade a Camaro or Firebird for my Dakota Though I did just post it for trade yesterday lol... I'm hooked.. damn my g/f and damn F-body meets! :-X
Very nice car. It's a shame that it's been repainted though. There's one almost identical but flame red on ebay right now with less miles that looks to go for under 5k. It seems as though if these cars are not in near mint condition you can't get much more than that these days.
it looks like only the door has been repainted....
Well ... your sail panel emblems are in the wrong place for starters. There are other indicators as well but the car looks good, just not completely original is all.
Just my two cents worth but I think that your price is just too high. A 16k mile car just sold on Ebay with leather for only $6700.
To get higher dollar amounts a car has to be completely original and in exceptional condition or your audience just isn't that big. Most of the remainder of shoppers looking for these cars are looking for $5k cars and under.
Don't get me wrong because I think that your car is very sharp and deserves a good home. To me the 3rd Gens are still way under valued but it's just our reality. If you could store it away for another 5-10 years you might see some good appreciation though.
I have to agree with LOUVERS, to get over 5K for a thirdgen is a rare thing. The car would have to be in fantastic shape and even then it would have to be sold to someone who had both the funds and an appreciation for the breed.
Your car is great by the way.
If you don't need the money, store the car and break it out when you want to drive it again or the market has gone up.

I'd love to see a link to that... Because I call BS... and if it did, it must have been a pile.
Just as reference... an '87 TA just sold on ebay this weekend, in OH, not a GTA, but still L98, 4 wheel discs... nice shape but had some issues in person... 67k miles, paintwork, some door dings, etc... bidding ended (36 bids I believe) and sold at $7,500.
BTTT - nice lookin car, fair price... hopefully it will go to someone who can appreciate it...

I don't know what you think you are calling "BS" on? I own an '88 GTA and I am a very active member of the GTA and F-body community. I watch E-bay constantly and this car listed here was on E-bay already and he couldn't sell it for his asking price. He has also had it listed on Auto trader for a while now. The only "BS" that I see is the above car that you mentioned. Chances are that it was bid on by one of the many "non-paying" bidders on E-bay and that guy will never see the money for it anyway.
I for one would love to see these cars go up in value but those days just haven't arrived yet. Quite frankly, these northern cars with relatively low miles that have been repainted scare the heck out of me. You don't really know what's under that paint and if you are dumb enough to gamble with your money, knock yourself out!

The "BS" call is on a 16k mile GTA going for $6700. I thought that was clear when I said "I'd love to see a link to that... Because I call BS..."
I also want to add, that I did not purchase that blue car (in regards to your comment, "if you are dumb enough to gamble with your money, knock yourself out!") but I was watching it... (I did provide a link, if you noticed - just click on "'87 TA" above so you can see it for yourself)... whether the bidders actually pay is always a gamble that we will never know...
The point is, this is a nice looking GTA, and it's not big money for the car... I am also a "very active member of the fbody community" and I also moniter what these cars are selling for... this one seems more than reasonable, based on what is presented here. No reason to bash the guy for his asking price...

No one's bashing anybody except you. I never said that his price was unfair ... I never said that it wasn't an attractive car .... in fact I complimented it.
I just stated the facts about these cars in general and most intelligent people can relate to that.
The guy that actually bought the $6700 car off of Ebay did get a car that had been messed with. He posted a lot about it on another forum. He was an unsuspecting buyer that thought he was getting a "great deal". I would gladly pay in excess of 12 thousand for a 16k mile GTA if it were from the original owner and in exceptional documented condition. The difference is that I am a collector and I know what to look for. Most of these cars have changed hands multiple times and when you ask a question like "Why has the car been repainted?" and the person selling it doesn't even know that is has been, it greatly devalues the car.
The value of anything is what any one individual is willing to pay. Obviously these cars have values all over the place but most that pay too much are uneducated buyers that make purely emotional decisions with their money.

No bashing there either, right?

I suspected that - yet when you posted it you used it to illustrate a low sale price on a car like this... not to illustrate that it was a bomb...

As would anyone else who knows what they are looking at.

And you're implying that I am not, and that I wouldn't know that? I've been posting around here since 1998... less frequently lately, but I'm far from new to the third generation Trans Am scene...

100% true.

Not necessarily.
And for the record... I was not bashing you at any point...
The wheels were not original to the '87's nor were the center caps. The engine and exhaust also had mods.
Anyone seriously looking at one of these cars should snatch this one up because you won't find one in this good of shape for this low of a price for much longer. IMO
Wish I had the funds, it would look great in the garage beside my black Formula. I hope to be able to land one before these outrageous BJ prices become the norm. Good luck selling it, wish I could be the buyer.
I know this car is far from perfect but what does 6k buy you anymore?
I sold my 86 Z/28 7 years ago for 6000 bucks. It had 207,000 miles on it.
FYI ... a similar mileage car just listed on Ebay with a "buy it now" of $14,500.
It might not be a bad time to go ahead and relist it there. I think that your car is almost just as nice and you are only looking to get half that price.
