1990 Firebird Formula

I've decided to separate from my 3rd gen in favor of a new daily driver.

Engine 350 TBI
700R Transmission (still strong)
Runs great
Inspected and registered this year
Blue title in-hand
All working gauges
Pop-up lights fully functional
Ceramic coated Hooker headers
Custom performance exhaust w/ Flowmaster 40 series
New brakes (front disc & rear drum)
New 55lb injectors
New flywheel
New starter
New torque converter
New fuel pump
New fuel sending unit
Relatively new suspension
After-market sound system
Custom paint job
Great condition seats (not ripped)
Hatch shade included (rare)
Touch up paint w/ custom paint code included

Has mostly new AC system, but a leak developed somewhere and lost coolant. Needs diagnosis and refill.
Engine was rebuilt prior to me. Not quite sure exact mileage.
I realize this is not a factory restored Formula.

Asking $6000/obo
Fort Worth, Texas

"Yeah, yeah Blah blah blah" ???? LOL

You're on TGO, NOT craigslist/Offerup pal. Trying to brush it off as nothing isn't going to change the fact that you're "Misrepresenting" a car for sale

Formula's NEVER had 15" wheels and a standard rear spoiler !!! And slapping some decals and a bulge scoop hood isn't gonna change that either

Years ago I had a 1990 Firebird V8 and it also said "Firebird Formula" on the title/Carfax and documents, But I had a IQ above 50 to know it was NOT a TRUE formula !!!!

Good luck getting $6K or close to that for a car with STAINED CARPET AND A CRACKED windshield

Your AD REEKS of

Dave

Re: 1990 Firebird Formula

It's not any kind of Formula. Anyone that knows what to look for, knows a base Firebird with a hood and goofy Ebay vinyl decals when they see one. The same goof who put a fender badge on the dash, and an earlier Trans Am dash pouch, probably did the decals and changed the hood.

It doesn't matter, and I'm sure you don't care, but that tag on the driver's door will list the stock tire size. If it lists a 15" tire, it's a sure thing the car isn't and never was a Formula.

Careful Drew, Seeing how "frankenstein" that car is, That door could be off a REAL TRUE Formula with 16" wheel on the tag and then he can claim it's legit

Love that 1 of 1 "5.7 F.I TBI" edelbrock engine. RPO Code: 2BSL98

Re: 1990 Firebird Formula

May not be a true Formula but hell my car is put together from 4 or 5 cars. I think mine started out a Formula but I'm glad to have ground effects now and to get rid of those damn bumper pads myself. I saw this wasn't a true Formula but most people don't know because Formula shows up on the title. Doesn't mean its a bad car.

It's a simple fact the car is what it is. but the principal is that he knows it's a not a Factory authentic formula and is on a third gen board trying to pass it off as a true formula and the fact that it's been pointed out to him several times now.
now add his passive ignorant comments proves that he's trying to mislead people on the sale of the car

Re: 1990 Firebird Formula

I just don't think we should beat him up over it. Doesn't look like a bad car and he may have honestly didn't know it was a base bird. At the end of the day a Formula and base Firebird are both a "poor man" Trans-Am right? Some folks like em. The 350 swap looks clean.

Re: 1990 Firebird Formula

I don't think that we're beating him up over it, as much as we're just correcting him to save him the trouble of having potential buyers get angry with him for misrepresenting the car. We're also looking out for those who might not know any better, so that they don't buy something that's not what they really wanted.

Not exactly. The Formula came standard with WS6/FE2 suspension. Trans Am came standard with F41 or Level II suspension, with WS6 as an added cost option. Personally, and I assume I'm not alone, I put the Formula between the Trans Am and the GTA.

NADA Classic Car Values put a 1990 Firebird with a 5.7L and A/C at $4,980 High Retail Value. The same book value for a 1990 Firebird Formula with a 5.7L and A/C is listed as $11,220. Even the lower values put the Formula as being worth roughly twice what a base Firebird is worth. It's a significant difference.

Wow, that is a HUGE price difference.
I'm with dmccain though. The car is not that bad, and compared to my 84 TA, I prefer a Formula. I'm not a big fan of T-tops, I like Formula tail lights better, wish my TA didn't have the ground effects on the nose, and I even like those "bumpers". Yeah, it has a few issues, but it's also 30+ years old.

I see your point in someone not knowing and getting something they thought was something else. I sometimes forget everyone doesn't live and breathe and know the details of these cars like we do

The PRINCIPAL MATTER that you're not understanding is whether or not he knew it was a FAKE "Formula" is irrelevant, The point is he knows now and STILL hasn't changed this thread or his AD on Dallas craigslist

Instead he responds with this

"Yeah, yeah. Blah blah. That's what all stuck up **** retentive people love to tell me. I ran the VIN. Just because it's not restored 100% OEM doesn't mean ****. Don't like it? Go away. No one asked you for your opinion"

Which means either HE KNEW it was a slapped together BASE firebird or just to ignorant to care or listen to what others are telling him and just wants to believe what ever he thinks or was told from a previous owner, But seeing the state were he lives in, I'm not surprised at his response

Once again this AD is MISLEADING and the car pictured is NOT a TRUE factory 1990 Firebird Formula WS6, Just a slapped together BASE 1990 Firebird

It's important to use an accurate source. So many online tools simply take the VIN and decode the VIN simply based off of the numbers and not based on records. Unless the source has GM's database, you cannot tell a Firebird VIN from a Formula VIN aside from the fact that some engines were not available on the base. Because both Firebird and Formula share the same VIN prefix of 1G2FS, many group them together. This is the same issue with Trans Am and GTA sharing the same 1G2FW VIN prefix and causing some to believe they have a GTA.

Some have already pointed out good information as indicators. Two other good indicators would be the W66 RPO code or using a more accurate source that has GM's records. Compnine is one of those sources.
