Car: 1988 Trans Am GTA
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: Stock
1988 Pontiac GTA L-98 A4 $8500

SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD

All original 88 GTA with no modifications, 134,xxx miles, power windows, mirrors, manual seats, cruise control. I bought this vehicle in 2016 and have been fixing it up over the years (you can see the original buy thread to see what it looked like when I bought it). Here is what has been done:

Mechanical:
KYB AGX struts, and KYB Gas Adjust shocks
MOOG Endlinks all around
Transmission mount
O2 Sensor
Temp Sensor
AC compressor, dryer, dessicant pack, compressor switch
fuel pump (can get you brand I forget off the top of my head)
Southbay fuel injectors
Autozone Hot film MAF sensor (New)
Oil Pressure switch (one next to oil filter)
185 Thermostat
205-210 F degree secondary fan switch (stock is 238F)
New BF Goodrich 255/50R/16s

Cosmetic:
Fire Red Metallic single stage paint job (I did this 9 months ago now, not professionally done, this was the color it left the factory in)
Classic Car Industries Fiberglass Aerowing spoiler
New dash pad cover
New central console for HVAC, and radio controls
New shifter and center console with new center cubby door
Kenwood blue tooth enabled radio with microphone for handsfree use
new 4x6 and 6x9 speakers
New hatch pull down motor rails (from Top Down Solutions)
New headlight motor replacement gears (from Top Down Solutions)
Complete new door and window weatherstripping
New door handles (old driver side had the missing spring problem)

Known issues:
Code 36 from the new Autozone Hotfilm MAF (this component does not send the ECM spoof code for the original style Hotwire MAF burnoff function after engine shut down)
Fuel Gauge reads from 1/4 tank when full to E when empty.
Driver side window is slow
Radio Antenna not installed on passenger fender (have the original wanted to put a short one one never got around to it)
Probably could use wheel bearing replacements all around no noises or vibrations it was just next on the list to do just in case.

The car passed emissions when I had to get the CA title transferred into my name, and I have subsequently changed it to an Arizona title. I am either the 3rd or 4th owner of the vehicle. It's a daily driver where everything works. I drive this thing during the heat of the day (108 F) with the A/C blasting on max, sitting in traffic with no overheating issues. The reason why I'm selling is I picked up an 86 TA 5spd LG4 about a year ago now, that I want to paint and put an LS3 and TR6060 in. I wanted to do something similar with this car, but since this 88 GTA was so original and complete I figured it would be a waste to pull the original L98 and A4 and stuff the LS3 in. I figured someone else could enjoy an all original stock GTA. Asking $8500 negotiable.

EDIT: Updated the title to lower price.

Update:

interior headlight switch replaced.
Small oil leak has been fixed.

I'll post some pics showing absolutely no rust on the car. If you're interested make an offer. Thanks.

That's a pretty car.

Looks good. I have the same color 88' GTA with 145,000 miles. You did a great job getting it back into shape.

Re: 1988 Pontiac GTA L-98 A4 $9500

Thanks. Since it's not moving in this price range I may just keep it. I still enjoy driving it around and I never see any thirdgens rolling around ever.

edit:
My biggest pet peeve is the automatic for these L98 cars. I may rebuild the engine and throw an LT-1 T-56 behind if what I want for the car is above "the market". 😄

What in particular do you not like about the auto transmission? Is it just that you'd like a manual transmission instead that's more fun to drive and perhaps be quicker in the quarter mile, etc? Years ago when I found out the first gear in the transmission was 3.06. If I get the money, I'll probably buy a Formula and put the transmission that came in the Grand Nationals in it which appears to have a better spaced set of gears in the transmission.

Re: 1988 Pontiac GTA L-98 A4 $8500

I can relate to the OP not wanting an automatic. They can make any car less interactive and a bit boring.
But that's a good point about first gear: The automatic is geared for launches (unless you had the 2.73 rear end).
To have 1st gear in a T56 geared as low as 1st in a 700R4, you need to look at what rear end gear you have now and do some math.
Ex: 3.06 x 3.42 = 10.465, then take the 1st gear of the T56 and 10.465/2.66 = 3.934
If your 700R4 is paired with a 3.42 rear end, you might want a T56 to have a 3.9 rear end (if there's such a thing for your carrier assembly).
Then, if the car didn't have a limited-slip in the first place, that's a good time to install one.

Very nice car and the price is right. Wish I'd started with a car this nice instead of spending a fortune to get mine where it's at. If this were closer I'd probably have to buy it. Very nice GLWS!

Just the shift it yourself fun factor for me. The gas mileage is a bonus though thats a minor concern since it's not a daily.

I believe a 3.92 is what it was for the Borg Warner carrier when I was researching into doing the swap a couple years ago. I found a link for a decent price if I remember but it was awhile back.

Thanks! It's come a long way. If I still had a 3 car garage I'd keep it, I just don't have the room for it and the 86 TA project.
