(IN) 1992 Trans Am Convertible Beautiful Car $14,000

***NO LONGER FOR SALE...WELL, I DON'T THINK SO ANYHOW***

PICS BELOW VARY IN AGE FROM 0-3 YEARS (pics in garage were taken today).

Listing my beloved 1992 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am convertible...one of just 663 made in 1992. LB9 305 w/ Tuned Port Injection, automatic, power everything that was offered, and most every option that I know of, but the car is NOT a WS6. I recently purchased a 6th gen Camaro, as my wife won't drive the Firebird due to the long front end, and I'm not sure I see much sense in having 4 cars for the two of us. That said, I don't need to sell, and might wake up in the morning and delist. I'm really torn. But, if I commit to showing the car to an interested party, I will commit to selling it to that person. No games here. It's amazing to me that this car sold NEW for over $26,000 in 1992.

I purchased the car in April 2011, about a year and a half after the previous owner had purchased it from a member on here, Scooby Doo (find his posts at Third Generation F-Body Message Boards - Search Results). He did an amazing job bringing this car to its potential, replacing many parts, and investing in a very high quality paint job. Much of the work he documented very carefully, and I have photos as well as receipts for much if not all of his work. Really just exceptional attention to detail. Examples of the other things he did to the car over a decade, but many less than 10k miles ago:
  • Installed a Wonderbar steering brace and subframe connectors
  • Installed a Flowmaster cat-back exhaust system with tips that look and sound fantastic
  • Installed all new fuel injectors along with fuel pump and performed all the other regular maintenance replacements such as plugs, wires, distributor, water pump, alternator, etc.
  • Replaced carpeting, dash top (absolutely no cracks, tears, or bubbles), worn shifter handle
  • Replaced sway bar links
  • Replaced power window switches
  • Installed Monroe Sensa-Trac Shocks and struts
  • Replaced center link and idler arm
  • Replaced seat belt receivers
  • When the paint job was done, he replaced the graphics and even installed the proper deck lid decal to protect the paint
When I purchased the car, I added 4th gen leather seats wired so the driver power seat works, with custom firebird embroidery and floor mats to match, purchased a year-correct Delco CD player and had it professionally rebuilt with an aux input installed, and more recently upgraded the speakers to Kickers and installed a Kenwood compact 4-channel amp in-line with the factory stereo, so it looks correct and sounds very good. I also found a then-perfect set of tail lights and installed them, though the passenger side one has its first spot of delamination this year. I had the wheels refinished, and there is no clear coat on the aluminum so they polish to a mirror finish (not the cleanest in the photos), and replaced the tires probably 7-8 years ago. I've kept up with the maintenance, which has been minimal, driving it only about 6k miles in the last decade. Car has not seen snow in over a decade. The underside of the car looks very good for its age. I replaced a power window motor and the power lock actuators a couple of years ago. I've also replaced several interior trim pieces and added leather to the door panels to match the seats.

When I got the car, the front cowl had a front license plate. I removed it, had the holes filled, and had the cowl repainted. The driver ground effect was also repainted due to rubbing from door sag. The sag was eliminated with a repair kit on the upper and lower bushings from Hawk's.

Convertible top is in overall good shape, some curling on the edges. Weatherstrip is largely in good shape with a few exceptions. To my knowledge, it's water tight.

Also included with the sale are a set of 1987-1992 Ultima Leather seats in gray that need recovered, but to the best of my knowledge everything works. I acquired them from a guy about 10 years ago, wrapped them in plastic, and stored them. The thinner 4th gen seats were better for me since my kids would use the back seat 1-2 times a year. I also have a recently refurbished rear end from a 1991 Camaro with the 3.23 gears and a posi that I was planning to put in the car. It was professionally disassembled, the housing sandblasted and powder-coated black, and will be reassembled for a buyer with the axles that came with the rear end assembly. My plan was to do a disc brake conversion while I was at it.

As mentioned above, no need to sell the car, and I'm aware that my price is probably high, though in this market right now, who knows. I don't intend to sell the car unless I can get out of it what I think it is worth, from a seller who I think will appreciate and enjoy the car as I have. This car starts on the first crank, sounds fantastic, runs and drives fantastic, and is much, much quieter in terms of door rattles etc. than any this age I've ever seen. It will not disappoint.

Please private message or post below if you are interested. And if not...cool, I have an excuse to keep my 3rd gen!

Thanks! I drove the car about 60 miles today to put it in save storage and am reminded just how fantastic the car is overall. The mileage is about 135,000, original body, engine, transmission.

Nice looking car. But Geez, that garage is tight, and very scary.

The photo makes it look worse than it is, and it was intentionally parked that tight for the winter. I took those pics immediately after taking the cover off. The kids know if they get near their bikes before I pull the car out in the spring they had best be looking a place to live, 8 and 12 or not!
