Here's what made up WS-6 in 82:
548 lb/in front springs
134 lb/in rear springs
32 mm front sway bar
21 mm rear sway bar
12.7:1 steering ratio
P215/65R-15 tires on 15x7 wheels
4 wheel disk brakes.

All 82 T/As came with plastic "aero" wheel covers. The styled aluminum wheels did not come out until later. Part of your confusion is that the link you posted talks about WS6 on Formulas which weren't brought out until 1987, hence the difference in equipment.

I read the info about the formulas on that link and they have about 50% of it correct, its close but I must say they need to do more research or at least explain what they mean...

Here is what they have

82-92:
Technically the Formula was only availble 87-92

WS6 was standard an all Formulas in the 3rd generation.
TRUE

16-inch polished "Pontiac Snowflake" aluminum wheels
True, kind of, the "Snowflake" wheels changed in 88, the 87 had the same wheels as the WS6 Trans Ams of 85-87, some people call them flat for 87 and dished for 88-92.

R-rated tires from the factory
in 87 & 88 245-50-VR16 Tires, and 89-92 245-50-ZR16 Tires

Tear-drop cowl hood
True
Larger front/rear anti-sway bars
true
Stiffer shocks
True
]Tigher ratio springs
true
Dual oulet mullfer
I thought all firebirds got this muffler

*Note: the WS6 package changed slightly in 91-92, as did the entire car, but changes are minor:
not really, the 1991 car was almost identical to the 1990 car except the front and rear bumpers and the door decals.

16-inch five-point wheels
WRONG, used the same exact 16" rims as the 88-90, the ONLY exception to this was the Formula 350's that came with T-tops, they got the Trans Am Black Lace Wheels.

36MM Front Stabilizer Bar
24MM Rear Stabilizer Bar
WRONG, all WS6's from 86-92 used the same Front and Rear sway bars. pt# 14094344 fnt, pt# 10035033 rear.
Performance Bushings
could be, its possible.
The Formula package also included:
(2) Large "Formula" or "Formula 350" door decals
True, kind of, for 87-90 this is true, in 91-92 there was only the "Formula" decal on the doors for all Formulas.
(2) Small "Formula" bumper decals
True
(3) Medium Firebirds for sailpanel/nose
True, technically the nose bird was slightly different, but I will give it to him.
(2) "5.0 Liter F.I" or "Formula" cowl decals (or similar)
Wrong, the Formula decal was NEVER on the hood.
87 LG4, 5.0 Liter
87-92 LB9, 5.0 Liter F.I.
88-90 LO3, 5.0 Liter F.I.
91-92 LO3, 5.0 Liter
87-90 L98, Nothing
91-92 L98, 5.7 Liter F.I.

(4) WS6 Centercaps
88-92 only, I will give it to him
(1) Performance Suspension passenger dash tag
True

9 Correct
9 Either wrong or incomplete data.

So he is 50/50.

The reason I went through all this. Moral- Don't believe everything you read on the internet, only believe half of it and I hope its the correct half.

John

interesting stuff,

i understand that WS6 or WS7 is with or without disk brakes but both RPO are the same in 82 otherwise ? when were aluminum drums first seen and why did the 84 Z28 HO305 get alum drums but this 82 trans am gets only iron drums and smaller rear bar ?

trying to determine which, if either that this 82 trans am has
it has drum rears and good sized rear sway bar LG4 and 200c and 2.73 and trans am vin code

thanks for any more info

I am not sure of the years, but I know from 86+ the sway bars are 36MM Front Stabilizer Bar and 24MM Rear Stabilizer Bar. In 85 they were slightly smaller I think 34mm & 22mm... As time went on they made the sway bars larger, maxing in 86.

ws-7 rpo code is the trans am package, I believe all ws-6 cars were disc rear ends, I have a non ws-6 82 and a ws-6 84 and without a doubt the 82 gets left in the corners in a bad sort of a way, the rear sway bar on the 82 looks like a paper clip compared to the 84's sway bar, and the front is about the same way, Ive just upgraded my 82 LG-4 with TPI, edelbrock headers, serpentine belt drive, dual electric cooling fans, and a 5 speed transmission and a disc brake 373 rear end, so hopefully now the car should be able to spin its tires without glare ice helping it

WS4 is the RPO for the TransAm package. It has been since 1969.

In 1982 and 1983 WS7 was the WS6 suspension but with rear drums instead of rear disks.

No, 85 had 36 and 24 as well. Ask any 85 WS6 owner to measure their bars or reference the part number if you want. I used to own one of them myself, it wasnt a 34/22 combo.

this makes my 82 t.a sound just like a disc rear car but with drums instead, ive got ws6 bars but not rear axle

so what is going on?

ok so WS6 and WS7 both are trans am with 32 21 bars right ?

so WS6 = largest bars and 12.7 steering and disc rear ?

WS7- same bars but normal steering and drum rear ?

thanks

I thought the only difference between WS6 and WS7 was that WS6 had discs in the back, and WS7 did not?

so since my "knight rider" has 14" stockers, it's not a ws7? damn. oh well... my car will still out corner a ws6 any day of the week. (thanks to Steve and Lon!)

It's not a WS6/7. All 82-84 WS6/7 cars came with 15" wheels (except the 15th).
