TA wheel center colors

My '84 Trans Am is a blueish grey (faded royal blue?) with silver ground effects and body emblems and it has the "high-tech turbo aluminum" wheels. It has only three center caps on the wheels, and one of those is missing an emblem, so I need to get some replacements. My question is, could the gold emblems be original, or would they have been silver?

I figured they were probably silver, but the paint and the interior were redone in the stock colors, so I'm surprised they skimped at the boneyard on something as visible as the wheel centers. The only other exterior part that I really need to replace are the grills.

Actually I am pretty sure you want gold.

I have never seen any low mileage/ original 84 T/A's w/ silver birds on the caps. I have only seen gold.

Yes, silver would look better, and make more sense...But from what I have seen the car would have had gold from the factory.

When I bought my '84 T/A back in 1998 it only had one center cap remaining and it was gold. My car is grayish blue with a silver aero package like yours.

I have a friend that purchaced his 1984 Trans Am from the original owner back in 1987 with 10,000 miles and his has gold center caps also.

And don't forget, the '84 gold is darker than the later golds too!

Yeah, all the '84 TAs I see on the web have gold birds, even if they have silver trim, so I'm sold on gold (I kinda liked it anyway - sorta manly over the silver). Like you said though Turbo, they are darker. More of a copper than a gold. Looks like they have them at Hawks:

Looking at the other cars and reading up a little reveals more weirdness. First, the front grills (broken of course) are the venetian-blind style from '82-'83. Could this have been an early run '84? The seller told me that it had been in a front-end collision and the hood had been replaced, so that might explain the missing cowl induction system (which she pointed out as missing), but she also said that the front bumper cover and grills weren't damaged and they're original.

Another weird thing is that the fan isn't electric either, but the VIN has a G code. The radiator and water pump has been replaced (not due to the collision), so maybe they just put in the regular clutch fan instead? I haven't found the engine VIN yet. She told me it was original.

Mine had the style to and it's an '84.

The "venetian" stye grill was used on 82-84 Firebirds and T/A's.

In 83 or 84 if you had the W62 Aeropackage, you got the solid style grill.
