I have an assortment of thirdgen emblems, and don't know the exact application on some of them. I know the application for some of them, but it wouldn't hurt to doublecheck anyway.

Heres a pic...

The colors on some look slightly different in person. I can post closeups if needed.

Here's what I have so far...

Rear Bumper emblems from the top left:
91-92 Z28 in aluminum/silver
85-86 Z28 in Gray (looks much lighter in person)
85-86 Z28 in silver
??-?? Z28 in ?? (looks like a grayish blue)
82-84 Z28 in red (doesn't look like orange in person, looks red)
85-86 Z28 in red
??-?? RS in metallic red
??-?? RS in metallic green
??-?? RS in silver

Rear Bumper emblems from the top right:
88 Camaro emblem (I'm guessing from a 6 cyl model?)
??-?? Z28 in gold
??-?? Z28 in blue

Rocker Panel emblem:
83-84 Z28 in silver /dark gray

Not sure where the Trans Am emblem mounts...

Dash emblems:
91 Z28 in yellow
88-89 IROC in red
88-92? Camaro (6 cyl models perhaps?

Have no idea what the app is for the last LT1 decal. If i had to guess I'd say its from an LT1 a couple of decades ago...

Your grayish-blue rear bumper emblem was probably from an 83-84 Z28.
'92 metallic red. RS w/Z03 Heritage appearance pkg
'91-'92 RS metallic green (bt. teal) 37U.
'91-'92 RS silver.
'83-'87 Z28 in gold.
'85-'86 Z28 in bt. blue dependant on stripe color. Either 24A or 27A. It looks like the bt. blue which is 27A. If thats the case it was also used in 1987 with stripe code 30A.

These are my best guesses.

the bird one is the sail pannel emblem from GTAs. i know there is one the same as that on my 88. same style used on all GTAs 87-92. i amalmost posative they are NOT present on standard T/As. the one you have is for a black car. you may notice the one in the photo below is red. GTAs had color matched badging, for that extra bit of class, they were also the first Pontiac Trans Am to be denoted by more then decals. (raised badging = class)

i hate to disagree but metal sail panel emblems were first use on the 1976 Trans Am. 1976 , 77,and 78 standard trans ams used metal sail panel emblems. . The special editions made those years used decals. Starting in 1979 all trans ams standard and special edition used decals.

good point. i did not make myselft clear. i meant to say first thirdgen transam to be distinguished by more then just decals. the older cars ALL had raised lettering. hell even the base models had raised badging.

Thanks for your input. I've managed to locate a bunch of these, but many of these I don't have the part number for, and couldn't look up the application.

Any input on some of the other emblems on the right column?

This item was first found on the 83 Recaro Trans Am. I agree with you Xman, raised emblem are cool

The lil birdy carried over in the 84 version and not seen again (in all kinds of different colors) until 1987.

The GTA had some rare color birdies too, dont recall, yellow maybe?


Wasnt the Berli the only Camaro with the sail emblem?

Um, I thought 82-84 Trans Ams could also be told by the cowl induction hood that came with the LU5 option. Im 95% sure that was only available on T/As for those 3 years. Of course you could bolt on a hood, but then the lack of side vents would give it away as well. And to Xophertony, my 82 T/A doesn't have any raised anything anywhere on it except for Firebird written on the front by the headlight and the "bird" between the tailights is kinda raised. I think I remember reading that early 3rd gen T/As weren't badged as T/As so GM could avoid potential lawsuits from the Trans Am racing series.

can you post pics of your car, and are you sure it says firebird on the headlight and not pontiac. My 82 trans am just says pontiac on it's headlight.

The metal badge you have is for the 3rd gen GTA.. They had metal badges on first and second generation Firebirds, but the shape of the bird varied by generation.. The third gen bird was completely different than the first and second. The only third gen T/A to get the metal badges was the GTA

The LT-1 was a 1970s vintage carburated 350 motor...... Unlike the 90s version LT1 which was fuel injected.... Note that the dash is important in telling them apart.

Yeah sorry, after you said it I remembered, It says Pontiac. Either way, its the only raised thing on the car. This is the only pic Ive got so far on my pc. Hopeing to take more sometime soon.

GTA Jim is right about the LT-1 decal.This motor was the only motor availible in the 70-1/2 to '72 Z28 and was optional in the Vette.It was used thru '72 when regs marked it's passing.
On Pontiac using the Trans Am - T/A badging the SCCA was paid something like $5 - $10 per car royalties starting with the '69 T/A.
The 2nd Gen T/A never used a raised emblem on the sail panel.Basically there wasn't even a decal there until the Pontiac 50th annversary edition in '76.The base F-Bird.Esprit,and Formula used raised metal emblems in various places on the car.It's also funny to see one with a vinyl top.
