Black and Gold Trans am's
Are there any other owners of the black and gold gfx/wheel combination owners out there? Pontiac used this color combo to do most of its Trans am advertising back in 85-86;
Did this combination have a name?

well, i think 85 was the first year of Trans Am's offered with g/fx. So, the black and gold, like Bandit would be an ideal color scheme

I have an 83 Black w/ gold trim. The car also has gold 16" wheels from an 86. Ground effects were first avail on the 83 PaceCars. On 84 it was the regular aero package option. I have seen black and gold 84's w/ gfx.
As far as I know, its just Black and gold Nice cars.

you know TAdam, i remember seeing that a while ago, thanx for reviving my memory. According to my dad, when he bought the car in 85 though, GFX weren't an option on base models, that's why i don't have them. So, were they only offered as an aero package through what 86-92, or 87-92?

Ground effects first showed up on the 83 Pacecar T/A's. In 84 they were the aeropackage option. From 85-92 ground effects were standard on all T/A's I do not know what year they became optional on regular firebirds. I think it was called the "aero kit" (or package whatever ) On regular firebirds.

Hey, I've been lookin for someone that has been lookin for 86 Black and Gold T/A's. You never see em. I regretedly sold my 86' WS6 Trans AM. It was all black except for the emblems were gold. IT had the gold turbo WS6 16" rims. I haven't seen any other TA have em. I think it is rare. Mine also came with performance sound, and suspension, LG4, 5spd, 3.08, posi. Also Rare is mine had the Recaro buckets seats and interior. No power options hardly, just badass seats. IT had the Aero package. Man, it only had 90K and in great shape I shoulda kept er'. IT looked like an 80's Bandit. ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS INFO PLEASE RESPOND!!

My 84 Had the Black and Gold originally but somewhere along the line one of the previous owners thought that black ground effects were better looking than gold (but kept the gold colored rims)

Uh, I thought ground effects were available in '83? I almost bought for $750 a complete, '83 Recaro T/A that was black with gold gfx and rims.
Were these added to the car?

Jason E...I would guess that the gfx were added to the car. They were only available on the 83 pacecars (production of around 1500...i think) All the cars were white and gray. Some may have come w/ the Recaro int. (I wouldnt doubt it).
82-84 cars were basically the same so ground-effects from an 83 pacecar or regular 84 could easily have been added.
For 750 I think you should have gotten it.

90 was the year base birds got the chance to have ground FX's. Same for Formula's since they are "base birds".

Yes, the aero package was first available on the 83 Daytona Pacecar TA (2500 produced, 1980 Crossfire/Autos, 520 LG4/5spds). Check out my website devoted to the 83 Daytona 500 for additonal info (http://members.tripod.com/PaceCar_83/). In 84 the "Aero" package was an option, with 85-up being standard equipment. As for the gold/black 85-86's, I looked at an 87 this morning that was just like the photo posted (down to the gold 16-inch "Turbo-Tech" wheels), I don't think they were called Special Editions or anything. I believe 82-84(?) the Recaro editon was black & gold with Recaro seats (of course).

I had an 86' black and Gold TA. IT was all black w/ gold emblems and 16inch turbo tech wheels. IT was WS6, 5.0LG4, 5spd, posi. IT had rare recaro buckets, leather steering wheel and brake. Also had the performace sound w/ amp. I think this combo is rare. Also the best damn lookin TA I've ever seen, even the new GTA'S !!!!!!!!!!!!

beat this,
i've got a 1985 firebird, it's halfway there, all black, but does have the leather wrapped shifter, e-brake, steering wheel, full guages, performance sound with amp, t-tops, and the "luxury" interior. But i've got you all beat, it's on a base model firebird, and it's stock. how many of those are out there. kinda sucks, i've got mad hella options, and a all show little go car.

ok, this is to clear up all of the confusion here--really simple--the GFX that are on most production TA's were offered for the first time in 1985 and were used until 1990. The GFX were not available on base model FIREBIRD's with the V6 until '89. You'll never see many 89-90 base models with the "Sport Appearance Package" as it was called. You will see, however, that almost all base model 'Birds in 91/92 had GFX.GFX were never available ont he Formula in any year of 3rd gens.In 1991-92 a different front and rear bumper cover as well as GFX were used. GFX were offered on some TA models early on in 82-84, but are completely different from the 85-90 style, as well are the front and rear bumper covers. All TA's in 86 had the black, unpainted, urethane aero spoiler. The Black/Gold TA's are not rare at all and were simply the product of the non-monchromatic paint schemes offered from '85-sometime in '88. A rare 'Bird in m opinion is the Black/Silver WS6 TA. I have only seen 2 in the last 10 years. After '88, the TA assumed the mono-chromatic paint scheme of the GTA's. I hope I helped somebody somewhere with this.I have a rare car in my sig below-only 624 Notchbacks made, and only for that model year!

Voodoofighter, youve got the jist of it. No gfx for 82, regular option in 84. Nice to see someone set the record straight.
One time I saw a black GTA Notchback on the highway (Gold wheels and trim of course.)
