AC delete component question

I'm not really sure if this has been covered before or not, or if i should probably put this in the interior section. Anyway, my question is, with the AC delete cars built after 85, did the vents open by hand, or did the use the system that cars with Air conditioning have? I'm not really familiar with this aspect of thirdgens. The two cars that I have pulled the AC delete stuff from were an 84 and 85 trans am, so im curious if i can get heater controls that are ac delete for my 86 or if i'll have to pull the dash again to install the manual vents. Thanks in advance, and i hope i worded this so that someone understands me, im not exactly sure if i'm really clear on this.

If you plan on installing the AC delete control you need to remember that the air Delivery slider on that AC delete controller is CABLE operated. The AC style air delivery controler is Vacuum operated. If you install the AC delete control than you ( in theory ) loose control of your air delivery and it will probably default to defroster. If you want to control the air delivery after installing the AC delete controller - you will probably need to replace the heater core Vent box as well.

Re: AC delete component question

I`m bringing this thread back to see if someone can give me a couple of definitive answers.I`ve been searching and still not 100%.The original post gives me a question,is john in RI saying I f I change over to the 1le delete box I need to change the controlls and heater core or it will default to the defroster?Or is he saying that will happen if I change the controlls.

Also,I`ve read that you have to get a different fan for the non a/c box as the a/c was is too big.Has anyone modified the stock one with any success?

Re: AC delete component question

Jon is right, you can just install the a/c delete box on the firewall and leave the a/c controls. The a/c controls will still work provided the vacuum source is still connected. If you change the control unit in the console, the heater core box behind the dash must be changed, as the non a/c box is completley cable controlled. The non a/c cars to my knowledge are all the same up to '89, then the dash changed and some went to a vacuum assisted heat (non a/c). I have GM's actuall build manual if you need schematics.
