Why no kilometers on my speedo?
I pulled the cluster from my 90 parts Formula since it had the 8K tach and then noticed that something was different about the speedo side.
Speedo looked different for some reason then I noticed that there's no kilometers on it, only MPH.
Isn't that an odd option?

Re: Why no kilometers on my speedo?
Yes, some of the Firebird 140 mph speedos came without kph, but I thought those were only the first ones that came out in 1986, I believe. So are you sure that cluster was original to that 1990 car?
I don't think it says the model year on the cluster anywhere, but maybe the RPO code or GM part number on the cluster's label(located on the bottom of the cluster, not the backside) would shed some light as to its year of origin. Dunno if it would, that's just a guess.

The speedo does look a lot "cleaner" without the extra kph numbers on it.

I can't say if it was the original one in the 90, but I am going to guess it was since the entire car was bone stock, except for the hurst 5 speed shifter.

Re: Why no kilometers on my speedo?
I don't think they ever made any Camaros that way from the factory. But you could get a speedo from the dealer in the earlier years that had no kilometers and no double needle.
It was the 140mph "Z28" speedometer. It matched the cluster perfectly, and it looked great! I put one in my '83 Z28, but I don't have any pix of it. But I think there have been some pix of it posted in the past.
Edit: Ok, I did a search to see if there were any pix of the Z28 speedo. There were tons of threads about it, and one of them had a link to one for sale on ebay. The auction has passed, but the link still works:

Re: Why no kilometers on my speedo?
THe cluster probably came from an 86 Trans Am originally as there were a few months where the speedo did not have KM after they changed to the electronic speedometer. I am not really sure why they did not have the KM on it I can only speculate Why, but I know that after about Jan of 1986 they all would have the KM...

I was swapping out my broken steering column today and snapped some images for another member.

Re: Why no kilometers on my speedo?
I guess it's all relative to what you're used to. For me, the mph only gauges and the big US miles/small kmh gauges all look too spaced out. Put some numbers in there! And the 55 mph orange thing always attracts my attention too.
This is what I'm used to.
