Whats an '85-90 305 TPI 5 spd T-Top Trans Am worth

What could I expect to pay for a 85-90 Trans Am 305 TPI 5 speed, T-top in ok condition. ...say 80,000-150,000 miles. I dont need immaculate condition. Faded paint is ok. Would need to run good.

What are they worth.

Think my chances of finding one at Carlisle All GM Nationals is pretty good?

You won't find a 305 TPI with a 5 speed in a 85 or 86, unless someone swapped it.

Worth is a matter of, overall condition, what does it have, how it was taken care of and treated, what has been done to it and when, and what may need to be done to it in the near future.

Each car needs to be evaluated separately, especially when everyones definition of condition type seems to be different. Nadaguides.com may give you a ballpark figure to start with, but they are not etched in stone.

You may find something at Carlisle, but checking it out thoroughly may be another matter.

A guy had an '88 GTA with an LB9 and a T5 at Spring Carlisle this year. I think it had something like 120,000 miles on it and the guy wanted $8,000 for it. On the other hand, there were three other GTA's with L98's and 700R4's for sale there as well, but in much better shape and for less money too.

I'd say chances aren't too great that there will be another one there at the GM Nationals. They didn't make very many of them to begin with. I can almost garuntee that there will be at least 2 or 3 L98 T/A's/GTA's for sale there though.

Eight grand? Guy should be lucky to get 2500 for it. Bad Market and bad oil plus these cars are still worth crap. My 2 cents, don't buy. Andrew

My car was appraised for $7000. Its a '90 T-Top 5 spd Bird with a 305 TPI. Granted, these cars might not be the greatest, but there are not many left in good, original condition. Besides, these cars have one of the most distinct body styles out there even today. Their just fun cars. Just make sure you know that your getting an older car that may or may not have its share of problems. Just my two cents if someone is looking to buy one.

Again with the, "These cars are worthless", crap!!!

The fact that last year, an 87 IROC-Z with no option list to choose from, was book valued at $3300 and today it books at $8850 tells me they're worthless too.

Re: Whats an '85-90 305 TPI 5 spd T-Top Trans Am worth

I paid $6,500 for my '90 about 6 years ago. All original, 70K miles, garaged, and in immaculate condition. I probably paid well over the market price for it, but that didn't matter because it was worth that much to ME.

I looked for 2-1/2 years nationwide for the right car and wasn't sure I'd ever find the right one. Once I did, though, it was an easy decision to fork out the cash. Basically, the car is worth only what you're willing to pay for it. I'd have gladly paid $10K+ for the car.

this comes up alot, maybe were you come from there still worthless. a freind from our local thirdgen club just had his 86 t/a appraised for 30+k. some more of us are also apprased for well over 10k also. and many other unmolested thirdgen sell for around that as well. back in 1982 you could have bought a 69 camaro rs/ss for about 3-4k too.....

Re: Whats an '85-90 305 TPI 5 spd T-Top Trans Am worth

I would think it would really depend on what your looking for... Everyone sais "Oh this does not matter or that does not matter" in the end I think it comes down to what you want and what your willing to pay. I would definately recommend paying more for a car that is all done and ready to go over getting a fixer-upper as you will spend more into replacing everything than if it is nice to start with... When I first did my car, junkyads were littered with them, NICE parts were still availble second hand... NOW, heck I am lucky to find a crappy POS to pull anything from, let alone any passable part... In the end For what I have into my 1987 for replacing parts I SHOULD have just bought a firehawk or TTA...

But then again I would not love these cars as much as I do because of the experiences I have had working on it. I can now remove a back bumper in less than 10 minuetes, I can dissassemble just about anything and remember how it goes back together, I think it was worth it.
