My 20 year HS reunion is coming up in July...I'm thinking of taking the GTA in since its an 89 too. About a 10 hour trek.
Does this sound really cheesy or what??? Just think it would be really cool to whip in there blasting Whitesnake with my collar turned up. Just like old days.
Wife swears I'm mentally challenged....

I'd skip the Whitesnake, but it sounds cool to me! You don't want to look like you're stuck in a time warp.... but who wouldn't appreciate seeing a sweet 80s f-body at the reunion?!?!

I dunno... A little "Still of the night" can go a long ways on impressions...
Sounds like something I would do for grins...
She calls you mentally Challenged? My wife sais I have a disease "Formulaitis" Just because I would whip my head around looking at Firebirds while driving... And I find time to stop and look at all of them that are for sale... its not a disease it's a way of life...

Thats funny...my wife refers to me as "Frank the Tank" from Old School. The scene where Will Ferrells working on the TA, drinking beer and jamming to Whitesnake. Thats me
BTW--Whitesnake has a new album out...just as good as the old stuff.
Think it'll be fun, might even try to find some neon Raybans.
My class would expect it out of me

Let the Whitesnake part go. I'm sick of hearing Whitesnake, AC/DC, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi right now. Every time I turn on XM Radio, one of these bands is playing. There was a lot better music in the 80's than this. Take the car though as that would be cool showing up in the old car. It would almost be expected from me since I had 2 Camaros (my 82 and 83) during my Junior and Senior year. I did crank up some AC/DC and Ozzy with the ttops out the last day of school. The 80's were great!!!
My grad was in '88 and if we would have had a reunion, you bet I would have brought my Camaro and gone full 80's!!! Why not? Some people spend to much time worrying about what other people might think. It's fun to have a sense of humour and enjoy the event.
The fun part about going over the top is everyone will get a kick out of it and I'm sure they'll know it's just for fun. See if you can score a couple of concert shirts from back then. You can always go back to "normal" after your arrival and they'll appreciate the memories!
If that is the case, then I think it is your duty to not disappoint!
Actually, your cool classmates who fondly remember the 80s as good times and not something to disown will probably be waiting in line to go for a ride!
See if you can score a couple of concert shirts from back then.
Still have an original "Kix" Blow my fuse shirt from 89

Hey, there's nothing wrong with living in the 80's. It sure beats the present. I graduated in 1990 and still have my first car ('82 Firebird) that I bought my senior year in high school (Dec. 11th, 1989). Now that's what you call living in the past!!! WooHoo!!!
Also, if you graduated in '89 I think you need to be blasting some '89 music. Motley Crue/Dr. Feelgood or Skid Row should be perfect. Maybe some Tesla.
I guess I'll be having my 20 year reunion next year. Wow...twenty years already. I already see friends from high school who have kids going to the prom or have already graduated from high school. Geez...somebody from my class will probably be a grandparent soon. I'm sure glad I'm not that old!
Some of my HS colleagues have grandchildren. A lot have kids in college, I waited til I was 31 to have kids...got two now. A 5yo and a 7 yo, glad I waited.
But I grew up in WV, where by the time you're 25, you're supposed to have 4 kids, a single wide trailer, a harley, a big truck, and an 84 vette. Glad I got outta there.

Sounds like you're going to get the award for being the biggest underachiever!
wow, i was BORN in 1989 i say go for it and get your wife some neon spandex with leg warmers! and you have to post pics, you cant say those things and disappoint.
We had quite a few as well, along with the correct ******s to go with them. Had one friend who had an 89 RS 305TBI 5spd, that was afraid to race it. I used to drive it for racing for him. We'd flip the air filter lid and run. Slow as hell. Quite a few TA's though. Had many fun and crazy nights in those 3rd gens....wonder I even made it thru
I am Class of '95, but there were still plenty of third gens around my HS parking lot back then. I think driving the GTA to your reunion would be awesome.
I am graduating from Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, Ca. That is a very clean 5.0 if I say so myself. My buddy owns two of em that I do all his work on. Then I got my other buddy a killer deal on an 87 Trans Am 305 TPI T-Tops... It cool having all your buddies into cars!

I remember the Choir Director/Music Teacher/Play Director/Jr Varsity Golf Coach drove a GTA. I want to think it was about a 1989 Red Metallic one IIRC...
Taking the '89 GTA sounds like a great idea to me! When I went to my 5 year reunion I rolled into the parking lot in my '71 Tran Am just like did when I got it senior year. It was like no time had passed!
Now that I think about it, I graduated from High School exactly nine years ago today! 6/2/2000. I guess my 10 year reunion is just around the corner.

I graduated in '78, and went home for my reunion. I still have the car I drove in High School, stored at my folks', since we don't have room for it up here yet - It's a '69 Camaro - still in good original condition, as Dad runs it up and down the road now & then for me. Pulled it out, cleaned it up, and drove it to our reunion. I was the only person in our class who drove his High School car that night, and it was a neat experience to have it there. A few of my classmates still have their cars from back then, and it brought back a lot of good memories.
