Any other '89 1LE owners on this board?
Hi everyone,
I was wondering how many other 1989 1LE owners on this board besides myself (are you out there t_towner?). Also, is there a registry of '89 1LE's? I am curious as to how many of the 111 Camaros we can account for now. If you have a legit one or know someone who does, please post up. This is not scientific, so no VIN posting is necessary, but it would be nice to know of it is a 305 5-speed or 350 auto.
Thanks,
Jason

It's a rumor that about 10 out of the 111 were for retail sale. The rest went to the racetrack. I know of two for sure here in Georgia. A Red 305/5spd with grey custom cloth interior, DX3 decal and stripe delete, and a radio.
That car was sold in July 2002 and went to TN with 2,300 mi.
The other was a white 305/5spd with black base interior and no radio. That car was sold sometime in 2003 with 10,000 mi. and went to NC. I had the honor of driving the white car from Atlanta to Charlotte and back in May 1999 for a Camaro show.

I heard about a guy in Atlanta from a friend in the ZR-1 community that had a couple of 1LEs, but he didn't know much about them. Ill bet he is the same guy. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Jason,
I came across your listing here, while tying to find a 1LE registry myself? I have one of the 1989 1Le's and it is listed here in the classifieds, but I'm having second thoughts about selling it though? I've have been talking it over with my teenage son that will end up as it's care taker down the road, and I have been trying to stress to him that chances of ever buying another one of these cars 15 to 20 years from now, should be like trying to buy a COPO car of the late 60's? Better have deep pockets!! My car is one of the red 305 5 speed units, that did see some first year race action, and has survived farly unscathed and has 18k miles on it.
My name is Charles and my member name is gto4u2 please let me know if you come across a registry?
Regards, Charles

I probably have the closest thing to a registry. At least for 74 of the 111 1989 1LE's as they were Player's race cars. 76 of the 111 went to Canada, 74 were R7U Player's cars.
I have all the VINS and RPO's listings for ALL the Player's cars 86-1992.

Mark and Charles,
Have either of you put '89 1LE Vin #'s into the COMPNINE database to see if they are in their system? Just for curiosity, I tried mine and one other known '89 1LE VIN and neither came up in their database. I was wondering if that was the case with some of the other 111 cars.

Compnine uses the same database that GM uses to search VIN's... Early cars aren't in that database. Before about 90 or 91 most of the cars in the database are Canadian. It's more likely that your 89 isn't in the database because of the year rather then the fact it's a 1LE.

Compnine has all the CAnadian VINS, so yes they have all 76 of the 1989 1LE camaros in Canada.

Mark,
Based on information you have assembled, any idea of how many of the 35 '89 1LEs that stayed in the US are still left? Someone posted a couple of years ago that a couple were crashed or crushed, but I'm not sure if thats firm or not. I'm sure there are some in private hands or have disappeared quietly, but I was just curious.

Had a chance to take a few photos of the 1LE this afternoon. I got it detailed to take to a "transportation day" at the pre-k school where my wife is a teacher. They needed a race car and I said "I've got just the thing".
