Should I Get This IROC?

My buddy has owned this 1985 IROC since 1990, and has taken great care of it. He is the 2nd owner and he goes back and forth on whether or not he wants to sell it. It has 103,xxx miles and zero rust. Asking $4,000 but will go down some I am sure. What do you guys think?

Dirt is just the clear plastic floor mats.

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

well first off i dont think you said the yr but from the looks of it an 85-87. is there a pic of the rpo sheet or atleast do you know some of the options. stock? anyhow i still think you should grab her she looks hella clean and it does have kinda high miles but no problem if she's been taken good care of and has had good maintance. maybe try to lower the price by a tad but still she looks hella clean.

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

nice looking car....

what's with the door panels? why do they have plugs in teh like somebody has converted it from manual to electric windows?
is it a 350?

it looks to be in really nice shape... it may be worth $4000, and if you can get it for less than that then you are ahead of the game. People have bought cars in worse shape than that for less, and then spend tons of money trying to get them up to that condition

looks like an original AC compressor,,, does it still work? power windows/locks/hatch ect... they all work?

i even like the fact that is has a factory radio.. you realy might have something there

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

It is an 85 and all stock except it was crank windows and he converted to power. Everything works on the car. It is a 305. I do not think they offered the 350 with t-tops in 85, or am I crazy?

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

if you do get her first thing i would do is get some nice dark grey or black carpeted floor mats, clean all the lights with your fav headlight polish with an dremel, to be safe clay it, if it has swirls use something like meguirs scratch x 2.0 over the whole car (trust me this make HUGE HUGE improvments), your fav polish then nxt gen 2.0 tech wax. also if you want i think a refinishing job on the wheels would look great with the painted parts black or the stock grey. and some good medium gloss tire shine and your fav interior protectant/shine. and maybe some chrome exhuast tips in 2.5 or 3in. also some chrome liscence plate frames. chrome lug nuts, chrome/billet emblems, also what helps alot is to pop out the clear plastic in front of the instrumental gauages an polish those up, it gives a much nicer clean look. dam it even has the distrib cover still on her i dont even have one and i only have 27k miles. if you got the time maybe shine up the tpi setup and the other aluminum parts. it has chrome valve caps correct? thats just me though i always liked black with chrome, god maybe i'l have to snag her up???

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

For that condition and price you'd be insane not to buy it unless it has some kind of hidden problems somewhere. It looks like it even has the semi-gloss headlight recesses still.

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

Looks pretty good, although it's hard to tell from just a few pics. Have you looked underneath? See any thick rust on the floorpan or the unibody stiffeners like the 'wonderbar'? Also look close for rust around the wheelwell edge crimps and at the rear bumper steel support up under the rear end (aft of the trunk well). If so, knock some $$ off your offer. Otherwise, it does seem like a pretty good deal...

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

The car is mine. Will not be bringing it home for about a month due to my other project bogarting my time and garage space. BUT, on top of this car, it also comes with a second 85 IROC. This one has no tranny and the TPI has been taken off but otherwise complete with a clean title. It has been sitting for about 15 years but should be good to part out unless the underside is good. If so I may keep it for the future. All in all I am very happy with the purchase.

It is funny, I posted this car on here for him last year to sell and got zero real interest. A lot of people complaining it was too much, and that was with the 2nd car as well. Crazy

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

I looked up the post... it was 4500, and you said nothing about the second car. For some reason $4000 or less sounds like a bargain for that car, but $4500 rounds up mentally to $5000, which is a little high...

I know, it's strange...

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

he spoke to about 4 people on here and 1 came over and looked at it but had no money, could not get a loan, blah blah blah.. all just messing around really. He told them all about the second car. My bad though, thought I had posted it in the post. And ya never round up on a car price, always have to go down!

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

He is kind of funny, he wanted to sell the car but hated to turn it over to someone he did not know. I can understand that, I was like that with a mustang I sold, and now I wish I had never sold it in the first place. Well it went to a buddy so he is happy. When I get it out i will detail it and post up some new pics.

Re: Should I Get This IROC?

Im not a camaro guy...but I would have snagged that for $4000... Just knowing the history of the car and knowing it was taken care of is a BIG plus, and Ide easily pay a little extra knowing Im not getting taken for a ride on the history.

Good luck with her and post up some new pics once you get her home!
