How much would you pay for this bad boy?

'89 IROC convertible, LB9/T5. I love the blue with the gold accents! Been repainted, has non-stock upholstery, Z24 steering wheel, no leather on shift ****. 87K miles. I'm thinking the $7600 current bid is getting near top money for this car.

Re: How much would you pay for this bad boy?

I wouldn't touch that car at that price. Check out the pictures, the IROC-Z sticker is on the front side of the driver's door but on the back end of the passenger door. (The back side of the door is correct for '89.) No telling what else they messed up on it if they missed something that obvious.

Good catch Denny. I missed the driver's door decal.

I couldn't live with this steering wheel. He apparently sold the original unit on ebay.

Yeah, uh, I wouldn't buy it if I was you. Questionable repaint, almost 90k miles, improper upholstery....

Doesn't sound like you, my friend...

I wouldn't say little to nothing. I think that's a tad of an exaggeration, no? My thing is, its a great car for a driver, and it has value to it, without question. In my mind, $7,000 is absolute tops for it. It looks good, and if someone doesn't care about original upholstery and stuff, its a nice Summertime runner.

Knowing the OP, however, I think he'd prefer something more original and better kept. A nice driving, original looking vert can be his for $10,000, or a little more. In my mind, that's more his speed, as would be mine as well.

If the car was immaculate, I could see $7-9k for it, but that car is not immaculate

Re: How much would you pay for this bad boy?

Instead of focusing on what's wrong with the car, focus on what it'd take to fix it. Compared to some of the threads where people are asking if they should restore an entry level car that's rusty, missing parts, hardly even a roller, this car isn't that far off from being decent.

Get after it with a heat gun, and peel off the incorrect decal(s), apply new decals. Swap the steering wheel back to a stock piece or something less hideous. Both would be easy afternoon jobs that would make a world of difference. The upholstery is more unfortunate since no one offers finished seat covers that are accurate. Probably best to sell the seats, and recover a donor set in the right fabric. Do those three things and you've got an Iroc convertible that's not too bad. Still not a high dollar collector car, but plenty fun to cruise, it'd be just fine at cruise nights and small town car shows. It'd be a driver grade car that an enthusiast could enjoy.

Re: How much would you pay for this bad boy?

I think it's a pretty cool car.....but....it's at $7600 with reserve not met. Add $1000 + to ship, afew hundred for steering wheel, shifter **** and decals. And then live with the seats. That is assuming that it has no other needs.

Pretty sure that I could find a lower mileage, all original car for that kind of cash.

Re: How much would you pay for this bad boy?

$5500. $6000 max. Atleast thats what I would pay for a Hardtop/T-top 88-90 Iroc that only has minor issues. I recall seeing a local 89~ Iroc Vert that needed a paintjob for $6500 and sold within weeks.

Re: How much would you pay for this bad boy?

$4000 is what i would offer. i think for that much i would look for 1987 vert with v-8 5 speed they are a little harder to find and more collectable.
just my 2 cents.also might look like it needs a new top.

Looks like $7900 Car didn't look that bad. As long as the paint, body and major systems are good, the rest of the things are just minor.

Re: How much would you pay for this bad boy?

I didn't see the ad before bidding ended, so the only interior shot I saw is the one in this thread, but that's about the best you can do with our seats at this point in time. Personally I think the seats look just fine, at least he kept them with the stock pattern.

I see a $7k car there.

Re: How much would you pay for this bad boy?

Assuming the paint is actually good and what's been pointed out already are the only things really wrong with it, I'd give $6,500 for it if I were in the market for a Camaro convertible. I'd get some fourth gen leather Camaro seats and swap that steering wheel. No big deal and less than half a days work to do it.

Actually, if I could have checked out the car up close and didn't need to pay for shipping, I probably would have paid that much, assuming no surprises.

Yes, there were some issues, but I really liked certain aspects of that car.

I agree; looked at it some more and I think I was wrong, this was a 7-8k car. The steering wheel and misplaced IROC stickers threw me off. Of course, if I bought it the stickers and the wheel would be the first things to go.

The headunit isn't original either, but an owner did go with a GM/Chevy unit for a cd player.

Re: How much would you pay for this bad boy?

We as enthusiasts tend to get "camaro blinders" and get fixated on a car. I've been toying with the idea to pick up another one. It still surprises me that no matter how rare or good shape of a car I see, there are still plenty of similar ones out there. Time is on your side and waiting a bit might pay off with a better find.
