Found A nice 1984 Firebird T/A 5 Speed/ Lots of Photos.
Still being on the hunt for my first 3rd gen, I check the on line sites about every day and I saw this on ebay this morning :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...84.m1423.l2649
I've really been looking for a 1987-89 IROC-Z or maybe a Firebird Formula and haven't been paying whole lot of attention to T/A's or GTA's, but for some reason I like this one. Now, before some of you guys start posting how it looks like a big "turd", let me say I saw a Firebird at a car show painted this color and in the sunlight it was beautiful, the photos don't do it justice (and this is the old original paint). I would call it a metallic copper or bronze, the sticker with the car calls it "Dark Gold". I like the color, but each to his own.
The car looks all original and in fair shape except for some saggy rear bumper cover and ground effects, pealing graphics and paint chips. The link has lots of high res photos of it and a video of the owner driving it around, so I thought some of you T/A guys might enjoy seeing it.
I'll keep an eye on it and if it's still under $4500 in the last day of the auction I might put in a bid. I wouldn't mind having it but the way the bidding is going so far it will probably be beyond of my budget pretty soon.

Nice car. Don't worry about the colour, that isn't important. T roof, L69, 5 speed and WS6 suspension are more important. It has some minor problems that can be worked out, but it looks really solid in the pictures.
I like it, it's worth putting in a bid.

I don't love the color, it's not bad. But I think that is a really nice car for not a bad price.

I say put a bid in of its still within your financial reach. An L69, 5spd, WS6, and t-tops makes it a nice car in my book.

Wow, super nice car. Still even has the "rubber" strips down the side under the side skirts.

I would consider it if it if I was in better shape financially. Seems very similar to my own car, front seats, power mirrors, and no leather appointment package are the only differences I can find other than color. I think the original price is close to my own factory sticker. Not a big fan of the faux chrome trim on the wheel wells etc. Easily dealt with, I would have gone after this one just to have a stock original to go with my sleeper.

Mine still has those same rubber strips under the gfx. 172,000 miles in the northeast USA. Still had just about every original part except for the fact that the original motor went sky high in a catastrophic failure, though we knew it was coming.

But that color. Ugh! I know it's a matter of taste but this definitely isn't mine. That's going to really limit the market here. I think you'll definitely be able to get into this for less than 4,500. If I could stand the color combo, this would be something I'd jump on in a heartbeat.

personally, i would continue the search for a Formula or an IROC, or at least a post '87 TA or GTA. basically, your purposes and mine may be completely different, but for me the two biggest problems are:
1) you're not going to get alot of horsepower outta the existing motor. and if you were to do a swap, you would have to swap the trans as well. not to mention the fact that it is not fuel injected.
2) the color. i have to respectfully disagree with the poster who made the assertion that the color is "no big deal" indicating that getting a paint job is no big deal. paint and body work is a big deal. you have to be very careful about who you get to do it, and its IS expensive, especially if you're doing a color change - alot of stuff has to come off.
of course, not everyone is as discriminating as i am, so if a brown over gold, carburated 5.0 Liter, 84 Trans Am fulfills your desires, then go for it. but when you stated that this would be your first 3rd Gen, i felt compelled to make sure that you're fully aware that not all 3rd Gens are created equally - and depending on what you want out of your street machine, you may very well have alot more work to do in order to get there with an '84...as opposed to something 87-92-ish.

An L69 with a 5-speed will run in the high 14s. Respectable performance for the era and in the ballpark of what most stock 1960s muscle cars will run once all the myths are stripped away. No one would probably ever tell a guy with a stock '70 Boss 302 that he didn't have enough power, right?
In this day and age where commuter cars can run in the low 14s, you don't buy cars like this for pure 1/4 mile times. If it were all about that, buy a much cheaper base Camaro and go to town with speed goodies. Or, easier, just buy a 4th Gen LS1.
Painting is a big deal but I personally think old cars are cooler with their original paint, even if flawed, versus some glossy re-spray. I don't think I'd paint this. I'd remove that stupid wheelwell trim and the bodyside moldings and give it a good detailing. Beyond that, I'd leave it be.
