Finally Finished! 1987 IROC-Z!
Well, after 10 years (hey, it was my daily driver for a LONG time!) she's finally finished! After 8 months in the paint booth ( a VERY long story, HA!) she has paint and interior. Replaced pretty much everything in the interior, headliner, sail panels, visors, carpet, seats, dash pad, plus some gauges and wiring. Exterior got brand new color, and they did underhood, doors, etc. 3 coats of clear, she's so shiny i can't even get good pictures of the metal flake in the paint! See 1987 IROC-Z in Colorado in the album section if you wanna see the pictures!

Nice, what is the paint code? It seems to be darker than my 1987 Iroc blue. This car originally had tan interior?
I agree on painting the headlight buckets black.
The ONLY thing I can say is I would of rather it not have the woodgrain kit on the inside, but if you like it that is all that matters!

Car came out nice...long way from where it was. What color is that? How many miles are on the car?

Re: Finally Finished! 1987 IROC-Z!
Interior totally done. Even managed to find a pristine dash pad for her.
Yup, original color was tan. I like the blue/tan/gold combo. And as was said, NEVER see that, so it makes the car unique.
I HATE the black-out on the headlights. Makes the car look like it has 2 black eyes (to me anyway) painted it body color specifically. Personal preference, same as the wood grain kit (my mechanic hates THAT! lol) The paint IS darker. And it changes color depending on the light. Its cobalt blue metallic.
150k on the, uh......body? Pretty much everything on the car has been gone thru. Engine, tranny, rear, brakes, cooling, yada, yada.
Yeah, she's come a long way. I should have taken pictures of the INTERIOR. It was so thrashed. seats were worn to a frazzle, carpet worn down to the backing, dash pad was, well, AWFUL. The headliner looked like a dead animal when we finally pulled it out.
oh yeah, added fat-mat to it too. Also fixed the hatch-pulldown. Amazing what was hiding under the old paint, LOTS of basic bodywork inc new drivers side door. And the list goes on......

Congratulations on your accomplishment. I think everyone who ever had a car painted has a "paint jail" story. The car looks awesome, and the personal touches make it "yours". Enjoy it!

Re: Finally Finished! 1987 IROC-Z!
OMG - paint jail! Paint hell! paint-in-the-butt! 8 months! How can it take 8 months to paint a car?!?! It didnt' need THAT much bodywork!!! I was SOOOOOOO frustrated!!!! One thing I haven't figured out yet, the old door decals were illegible. Faded to insignificance. I found one place that does 'reproductions' (?) but they want $124 APIECE!!! Anyone know if GM can still make these? Or if anyone does REASONABLY?

ooop - ok - let me rephrase that - not the OUTER door decals - the door-jamb stickers. You know GVWR, tires, etc. Mine are beyond faded.....

Looks nice, I like the wood grain. I'm not usually a fan but it offsets all the dark colors.

speaking of lights - autozone wanted $24 PER headlamp. Got a SET of 4 off ebay for $25. Wagner lights. We'll see how they look. Also got a black carpet for the dash to protect the new dashpad.

Looks like it went from turd to treasure...nicely done! Interesting color combo too, don't think I've ever seen it before, but I like it. Last year of the "good" IROC wheels too

Wow, that thing looks great. I also had my car repainted in cobalt blue metallic. You can check out the pictures in my profile. I love how it looks dark in the shade, but as soon as the sun hits it, it's a great lighter blue with a ton of metal flake.

Heres a couple shots of my IROC that was repainted the same color. I posted a couple different ones to show the color in the shade and sunlight.

My buddy had an 86 IROC with the same exterior colors, wheels, tan interior and factory wood trim with an LG4/auto. First thing he did was rip out the wood trim.

Yes it is, pictures really don't do it justice. You have to see it in person to get the whole effect of the metallic paint. There is a ton of metal flake in the paint.
