Calling All 83 Owners
I was hoping anyone who has an 83 F-Body could tell me what style rearview mirror they have installed. I’d like to know what kind of lever is used to switch from the day to night position. Side-to-side or front-to-back.
A few years after I bought mine new, my mirror was getting loose so I swapped it out with one from an 82. I’m quite certain the 82’s mirror was identical to my 83. Yet, I’ve seen instances where companies selling the replacement mirror for 83’s have the lever that moves front to back.
Thanks!
Larry

'83 still use the nice old METAL rear view mirror that debuted on GM cars in the 1960s. I believe it was 1986 or 1987 when GM switched to a newer cheap plastic rear view mirror that has the day/night lever that swings front to back.
The metal tab that is glued to the windshield also changed with the rear view mirror so the later style mirror can't be installed onto an earlier car without an adapter.

I have pictures of an 83 that show the slide type. I spoke to my father, who owns an 82 Pace Car and he also has the slide switch. Here's a pic of an 83 with 6k original miles.

My 83' had the side to side lever. I swapped it right after getting the car with a newer style one though as the chrome backing on the original was shot.
One day when I get done with the rest of the car and am doing my interior I will see about getting the original mirror redone.
