Good buy? Opinions wanted :)
Hey everyone!
I'm still new to the Thirdgens but I have always loved the late 80's GTAs. (I own a 99 WS6 currently).
I recently saw this one on Cars.com and the one thing I want more then anything is a digital dash, which this car has!

I'm still learning so any advice or what to look for would be great

I honestly think you can find a better deal. A guy here just sold a 90% original red Formula for $7000 with about 40k I believe.

What would you say this car is worth then? - still trying to learn the values of these cars
I'll need to take a look through the classifieds on here, but a Digital Dash is one of the things I truly want, i'm not picky on color or anything.

yeah there are some good sellers on here. Its hard to say what that car is worth because everyone will pay something different and you cant find an accurate bluebook. I overpaid for my car because I absolutely had to have it. Im sure someone will chime in and let you know what they think its worth, and say Im full of nonsense or agree with me. lol

So a dealer wants to sell a car and doesn't even vacuum it first? What's wrong with that picture? The price isn't bad, but it all depends on the condition of the car. We can't put a value on it unless we can drive it, hear it and look under it to see if there is any rust, etc. Too many variables to say. The car might be worth $2500 if it has a lot of issues or worth more if it doesn't. We can't really say.

I would highly recommend the digital dash, it's by far the most awesome feature of the GTA.
Can't comment about if it's a good buy, but it seems reasonable. If you are looking for a nice GTA, there are tons of them around, lots of them were used spaingly when new.
I noticed the console is starting to bulge out, but no fear, they can be easily fixed with Gorilla glue and wood clamps. I fixed it two years ago, and it still looks perfect.
Happy hunting!

True, and of course I'd fly out to the location and check it out

I love the color and it looks like a nice car, but like was said untill you get out there you never know. My car looks almost new in pix, but when you get close you see it needs some light body and paint work. I think for being a non T-top car and having almost 100K on the clock the price is a bit up there. Unless your going to race the car do yearself a favor and get a T-top car-they are some much more fun to drive around in.

I was going to have them take updated pics of everything and I would fly out there if I were to buy that car

I think I remember reading somewhere that I had to choose the Digital Dash OR the t-tops unless it was a Canadian car... Maybe someone can confirm that?

Digital dash was not one of the restrictions on a T top car, I have seen many with both. Digital dash was 87-88 only, and roughly 50% of GTA's were so equipped. It will be possible to find one with a T top. Throw a 5 speed into that mix and you will be looking for an elusive bird indeed. Not impossible, but you will need more patience.

Gosh and to think I have two - 1988 GTA, bright red, t-tops, digital dash, LB9/5-speed. One with a gray cloth interior, the other gray leather.
Neither one currently for sale.

It's not unusual to take several months (or years in some cases) to find the right buyer for an older special interest car like this. A lot of times it's just color/option combination that makes a car like this sit on a dealer's lot. Could just be the lack of t-tops that's turning off most would-be buyers, you never know. It would be a deal breaker for me personally.
