Re: Another super low mile 1LE....

Beautiful! That's how you option a Camaro... well, maybe needs a black interior . I love it. And I think it's worth high 30s to low 40s.

Also good to see what the engine bay condition looks like.

Awesome car, love the radio deletes

This particular car sold for $18,700 in 2006 at Barrett Jackson...

I'm excited to see if it'll hit reserve, I think it's worth all the money

Re: Another super low mile 1LE....

Can anyone see the code on the tag for the prop valve? Are there specific 1LE prop valves? We should note the code as there is much confusion on ID of a prop valve. As our cars increase in value this will be a way to sort out the fake/clone 1LE cars.

A great original car. The low options make this car desirable, cranks and radio delete and no body side mouldings make this car look very clean.

The driver fender to driver door gap is correct and normal for our cars but you would scream if your Lexus or BMW had that much gap LOL.

Re: Another super low mile 1LE....

This part confuses me - where did that come from? I think somebody took a little artistic license in that description.

Rare factory built race car- 1 of 34 of the track ready cars built in 1990 and 1 of 62 total production that year. . Most of the 34 were converted to full race cars, raced hard and turned into junk. This one was never converted or raced and has been in collector hands since new. Documented less than 1400 original miles. Car is exactly as delivered with dealer stickers still on the windshield. All delivery documentation. In the mid 80's , the C4 Corvette dominated SCCA /sports car racing and as a result was banned from the Escort racing series in 1988-89. One of the most successful Corvette racers Tommy Morrison, was asked by GM engineering to help them develop the IROC Camaro into a winning race car. He took delivery of 6 specially prepared 1988 Camaros from the factory in VanNys ,Ca , trucked them back to his race shop in Albany, Ga. and proceeded to work his magic. Wearing Morrison"s #97 and #98 with Mobil 1 sponsorship, his Camaros won 15 of 16 races in 1988 and 1989 against the best that Ford and Chrysler and Porsche had to offer. Only 4 official 1 LE/G92 Camaros were produced in 1988 but the special option package that was developed with Morrison became the must have car for many teams. In 1989 the word was out on the package and 111 were produced. However, the 1LE option came in two flavors: one was intended for the track and was equipped with a hotter LB9 305 cu in small block engine , 5 speed transmission and no A/C or other non essential power options. Another 1LE version came with the 350 cu in -L98 motor and automatic transmission; these were intended to be strictly street cars and were produced to justify the expense of developing the 1LE race package. The race 1LE's were equipped with: 5.0 TPI race tuned LB9 engine, 5 speed transmission with special gearing, Larger (11.8) front disc brakes from the Corvette, Rear disc brakes, Baffled fuel tank to prevent fuel starvation under hard cornering, Specific front and rear shocks, Special suspension bushings, Dual catalytic converter low restriction exhaust, G92 limited slip diff (3.42 gearing), Fog lamp delete to improve cooling, Radio delete, power accessory delete, and Aluminum driveshaft. In 1989 the 1LE swept the SCCA and IMSA showroom stock series. It won every race in the SCCA Escort World Challenge championship and won car of the year for the series. Only 34 of these rare factory built race cars were produced- very, very few remain in as delivered condition. This rare example has less than 1400 original miles and is a delivered condition except for a new battery , fresh fluids and a new fuel pump. Gas tank was drained and fuel pump/sender were replaced last year so there will not be an issue with stale gas. Comes with the window sticker, build sheet, tons of articles, dealer invoice, etc. CarFax documents three owners and original mileage. This is a rare investment quality IROC Camaro. 1990 was the last year of the IROC and this car was one of the last IROCs produced. The 80's and early 90's cars are rapidly appreciating. There were many thousands of Gen I Z28's produced and thousands of "made" cars. Why not own a rare original. check out L88 or '63 Z06 prices to see where these are heading. Only selling to make room for an L88.
Nice car.

Nice car.
Yeah I call BS on the 350 / automatic stuff... have never heard that before... I have an article somewhere that I bought about a 350 1LE automatic car winning some SCCA race, it was titled "Camaro 1LE wins automatically"...

I will admit, it was far more common to find a stick car in racing than an Auto.

Nice car.
Dragging up a 6 year old thread as I was searching Morrison Cook and this popped up but yeah, much like the BAT listing on the MC car a couple years ago lots of mis-information there.

I'll address the Morrison Cook part from my research so far.

Tommy Morrison ordered 2 cars originally in 88 and neither were 1LE cars although they became the r&d cars for that. 1 of those cars was rolled at the first race of 88 and retired. The other car went on to win the 88 championship and I own that car. The engines in those cars were built by Bil-Mar as were many of the GM backed Firestone Firehawk series F bodies.

A third car [ the BAT auction car] was bought from a dealers inventory , modified and replaced the rolled #97. This car was not a !LE either.

Later in 88 John Heinricy sent them a couple more "production line damaged " cars neither of which were 1LE's. Best I can tell so far is one of these cars was converted to a race car and was the new #97 going into 1989 and the other looks to have been a t-top car used for parts.

At the end of the 89 season Morrison had 3 cars in service racing under #97, #98 and #99. All 3 of those are accounted for.

So that makes 5 non 1LE cars.

Now, in preparation for the 1990 season Tommy ordered and took delivery of 2 new 1LE cars. These cars were not raced by Morrison Cook as they went back to Corvettes. I know where 1 of those went but not the other one as of yet.

Re: Another super low mile 1LE....

Agreed Mod,
Now that John has done a few podcasts over the last few years confirming the 1LE code was a secret code triggered by a custom ordered car by ordering the three actual codes Z28/G92/C41.
Given mine is so close in VIN to your MC car and it being ordered by a very prominent Corvette dealer those in the know of this r&d in late 87 early 88 were secretly ordering these track tuned cars well before the 1LE actually appeared on the rpo tag. Although from the sounds of it from John, the Camaro didn't get all the attention it did until 1988 when they couldn't race the corvette. Granted these early 88's didn't have the bigger brake set up the upgrade was all stock parts so it's an easy change and I'm pretty sure was done on your MC car early on as part of the r&d.
I'm still researching to see actually how many of these Z28/G92/C41's were ordered prior to the 1LE on the RPO tag, it's interesting history that at the time was classified information within GM. Time will tell.
