5k seems a little high. The rims are rusty and like half painted, so I wonder what else is half assed.

Re: 1989 IROC Camaro Z28 1LE R7U Players Challenge

Well 111k km = 69k miles

Other than that agreed pretty rough and yeah coulda sourced nicer correct rims, tho you could fix that easily enough. The main issue would be the stupid "upgrade" to 91/92 someone did w the spoiler etc.

That being said $5K CAD is just his ask and given the history def worth someone's time to get it back into clean shape, imo. Of course, I'm biased as a canuck :P

The fact that the GFX have been replaced, paint looks like its rattle can, the original roll bar is missing, etc, I'd say that this car is now just another beat up Camaro. It will cost a lot more than the car is worth to restore it to it's racing glory. Unfortunately, we don't know the condition of the interior, but just based on the exterior, I'd say it's shot. The mechanicals are probably worn out also. $5k CDN is still too much in my opinion.

You guys keep pricing at the ask. I'm more like "$4K CAD is $3,150 USD". Even if he barely negotiated you'd still be down in the ~3500 USD range for the actual transaction I bet.

May have been flogged by whatever goober changed the exterior, true, but it's hardly a certainty the mechanicals are shot at merely 70k miles.

And Scott, cmon, "worth" is relative. This wouldn't be some flip. A budget-conscious slow resto would be worth it on its own merits!

So they have the paperwork for the car but ruined everything else about it?

Bummer.

I think that is cheap for what it is. If it was local here, I would for sure be a buyer. I wonder if the car was actually raced and they "upgraded" the ground effects to reflect the new model year? Either way, a very rare car that deserves being restored and taken back to it's former glory!

Re: 1989 IROC Camaro Z28 1LE R7U Players Challenge

Most likely the 89 car was run in 1990 and had the ground effects updated to look like the newer cars. It was not uncommon to use the previous year car as a backup, or for a rookie to use that car in the next season.

All the race cars were painted and re-painted. That is part of their history. As are dents and repairs. That's racing.

The key R7U parts are intact. It comes with the correct wheels. And has the racing PROM which in itself is a rare find. Rollbar was a team supplied part - not a GM part.

If anyone wants more details on cars like these, pm me and I'm happy to chat about it.

Mark.

Clean cars are going in the range of 16-22K (CDN). Some folks ask huge money, but the market isn't there yet. Now I've seen super clean restored ones in the high 20's.

Most folks who buy these cars, enjoy them because they are a race car. Not so much that they are a low production model. Lots of race history, stories, and people to talk to.

Personally I think a raced car has more collect-ability, but truly an unraced car will appeal to the largest audience for resale.

He's updated the ad now. Comes with a second parts car?

I realize this post is a few years old but I just come across it. One would never believe it was the same car restored back to its race livery

Same car? Nice work. This is one thread that was worth reviving.

Don't forget the dual exhaust system that Players car apparently had. It came up recently, and I saved the picture, then searched for and found more. I love it.

Re: 1989 IROC Camaro Z28 1LE R7U Players Challenge

I haven't put the exhaust on it yet. I have reproduction tips and caps but the original Walker exhaust will have to be duplicated
and I haven't totally finished the car yet. It is the same car. the worst part was it needed floor pans. I noticed in the post everyone was worried about the ground effects and wheels. It had rims off an 80 Z28 on it but the factory wheels were in the car like brand new. This was th3e first of 6 players cars I bought one of the roughest but one of my favorites
