tpi 305 and posi in 85-87 z28's

I've noticed that in a couple threads that Willie say's that posi was a manditory option in a z28 with tpi. I recently sold an 85 z with a tpi 305 and 3.23 gears but no posi.

I looked high and low for G80 and it's not there. I wish it had been. I also know from personal experience that it didn't have posi. Floored it and sat there spinning a tire! The guy I sold it to is a member of this board, so hopefully he can back me up on this( i did tell him it wasn't a posi before he bought it.)

Is there anyone else out there that has a 85-87 z28 or firebird with a tpi and no posi?

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I stated this fact for 1987. I have written documention that supports this. I do not know conclusively whether this is true for any other year, especially 1985 & 1986. I tend to believe it's true for 1988 and newer (although I have no documentation), simply because it was true for 1987.

Thanks for your response Willie .

At least in 1985 you could get a tpi without posi. I could fry tire until it came off the rim. Also the dash was cracked by the radio from the car twisting so much, power to only one wheel. The car got real good second gear rubber too.

I don't doubt this one bit at all (recalling that the '84 305 HO Z28's got a single legged 3.73 rear). I wonder what the rear setup was on the 1985 5-speed IROC-Z with the 305 HO....

Chaulk up one more example of a TPI 85 with an open legger. In my case, it's a 3.42 open diff. I've got disk brakes too. I really wonder what the person who ordered my car was thinking. Let's order a car with every option under the sun, except an FM radio, power mirrors and posi.

Willie, I had no idea that the L69 5-speed cars came with an open diff. That's sort of nuts! Was it optional or did they all come open?

I'm sure Willie can give more accurate info for the years in question, but at least in 91 Posi was a $100 option on just about everything.

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??? There is a local guy here that bought a brand new 98 T/A with the Posi Delete, just so he could burn the tires off. sounded strange to me, but whatever floats his boat.

Isn't that what 1st and 2nd gear are for?
