1982 Z28 Doorjam VIN Sticker
I'm not sure I am in the right thread but here goes. I am in the process of getting my 1982 Z28 Camaro painted. Yeah, I know, then it won't be original but the paint is bad, bad, bad. I was the original owner, sold it and then bought it back 35 years later. The second owner did some interesting paint jobs on the car (which means it is not original anyway). The hood and passenger fender was redone (not very well) at some time and it looks very dull. The driver's side was keyed at one time and it looks like that side was done by someone semi-professional but they got overspray on the VIN doorjam sticker. Luckily you can read the VIN part but it is hit and miss for the date, GVWR and GAWR information with some of the numbers covered over. I am going to get a new sticker made by E.C.S. as the person doing this paint job doesn't want people to think he did the overspray. He is a very good painter and very fussy (which is good). I would really like to reproduce the exact label. For the date, I have the rad plate build date 03E (which translates to the 5th week of March). It would have been 1982, of course. What I believe I can read for the date on the sticker is ?2?82. I'm guessing 02/82 maybe? Would the sticker date be before the rad build date? I can read bits and pieces of the GVWR (?089 LB & 1255 KG or 1855 KG), the GAWR FRT (for the LB, I can only can read 208 and for the KG, I can only read 94 - don't know if that is the start, middle or the end of the numbers) and GAWR RR (20?? LB and I can't read any of the numbers for the KG). Are those numbers anywhere else on the car? I have the SPECS book for the 1982 Camaro but I couldn't find them in there. I'm going to try and take a good picture today. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Well, I think I figured it out. The stickers are pretty sturdy so I could get the overspray off of the first part using some elbow grease and figured out (using math) the rest. The date is actually 04/82 (which makes sense), the GVWR is 4089 lbs & 1855 KG, the GAWR FRT is 2084 LB & 946 KG and the GAWR RR is 2005 LB & 909 KG. I could read the GAWR RR LBs and most of the GAWR FRT LBs and they add up to the total GVWR which I could read, so that let me fill in the blanks. From there, I converted the LBs to KGs. Sorry to bother you guys and thanks for taking an interest in my problem.

Just be gentle with the elbow grease. test the door sticker with the masking tape to be sure it is not too sticky & could remove any details, before painting. The stickers from the '70's had a tendency to lift on the corners.. I owned a '72 Buick GS & had a new sticker produced by a fellow on the Buick site & it was exact. The old sticker had lifted/crinkle on a corner . Out it went, but saved.

The sticker inside the door of an '82, still being legible, is quite rare. I've seen many labels with the sticker still in perfect condition, but the typeset was almost completely gone.

Have you contacted them? Will they not sell to you? Have the shop that is doing the painting order them for you.
