automatic shift knob

automatic shift ****

how do i take the shift **** off of an 88 firebird and an 85 camaro.

On the Camaro you have to pull the button out of the ****. Look down the hole, there is a little ring that holds it on.

On the Firebird, there should be a piece of metal shaped like a staple on the side of the **** that faces the dash. Just pry it out with a screwdriver and the **** will pull right off.

My 90 camaro has the staple. I forget the name of it, but ya just pry is out and pull up.

My 87 Camaro has the staple, my 85 Camaro has the ring. The shift ***** are different as well. The 85 has a ball, where the 87's is like the one in your 90. I think it was 87 where they switched to the different ****.

A replacement staple is not hard to find/make. Just a piece of metal to look the **** in place, unless you go after market, then you shouldn't need the staple...
