Black Headliner
I just redid my headliner with some walmart felt type material and some 3m super 77 spray glue for under 20 dollars. I dont think it looks that bad. I also did the speaker covers. I wasnt done puting it all back together yet. I havent gotten to the doors and such but this is how it came out so far my first time doing this. im not so sure about the texture though. What cheap colors/fabrics have you guys put into the headliner?

Re: Black Headliner
that actually is really clean for what you paid for it. I like it. I actually found a newly wrapped t-top headliner in charcoal with the ABS backing instead of cardboard in the junk yard. Scooped it up cheap. Only thing that you would notice differently on yours is the fact that it isn't slightly squishy like the original liner. But otherwise i got you two thumbs up for the job you did.

Actually looking at that, i just realized that you have a gray interior, thats exactly what i'll be doing, running a gray interior with the dark charcoal roof liner, considering the speaker covers, i don't know yet, i want to see it in person before i decide on that.

Re: Black Headliner
I actually put the material over the old material on the speaker covers. Everything came out real tight thought. I wouldn't use the 3m super 77 spray glue again though because once I got home I read on the back " not for automotive headliners" but it seemed like tons of people online used it and the only thing wrong with it was the glue melts at 130 degrees. supposedly 3m has a spray specifically for headliners...

Re: Black Headliner
was in walmart yesterday, and actually saw small cans (maybe 6 oz?) spray cans of headliner glue, i'm guessing that they are going to start carrying it. If not places like Joanne's fabrics has it, it's like $10 a can, but the stuff works pretty well.

Re: Black Headliner
The 3m Super 77 glue was around 9 dollars for 16.5 oz . Im pretty confident this glue will work alright if not ill do it over with the right stuff... I Used nearly 3/4 of a can and it foams up pretty nice and dries somewhat flexable like a more plasticky rubber cement. Wet it was agressivly tacky and almost instantly set and held the material tight to the substrate. It says for use with felt and foam which is what my headliner is, its nice and porous also I cleaned up all the old dried up glue really good I used the Brush attatchemnt on the vaccume which seemed to get it off the best out of anything iv tried. only time will tell if it will hold. It looks great with all the moulding up now though much better than multi colored tacks.
As for the Speaker covers I personally think they will look a whole lot better once I redoo the doors and complete the interior. I need to find something besides the grey hooks to screw them down. That picture dosent do them much justice but they deffinatly pop and ad nice contrast. There was too much grey before hand.

Re: Black Headliner
I did the same but with some outdoor carpet from Lowe's (super stiff, lol) and the same 3M spray. Mine held up for years. I only had to ditch it because when I stripped the car down for a complete rebuild the cardboard surrounding the upper seat belts pretty much came apart. I have a "new" headliner from my donor car (84 Z28) that will get a new liner but I will be using some better material. Looks good!!

I would suggest using 3M's Super 90. Its made for headliners and such and is a permanant bond...Trust me when i did mine i set the foam backed fabric on and COULD NOT get it to move lol.

Re: Black Headliner
It looks alright but you should've made it one peice instead of seperating the speaker covers. That would give it that subtle clean appeal.

Re: Black Headliner
If you cut it the way you did the first time and left big ears hanging off of it you could get it inside the car and then glue the headliner down and once it's there you could line the ears up with the speaker covers and cut them nicely and glue. If that adhesive doesn't hold [I doubt it will but you never know since you used a ton] you could try this. I have the same exact 3M Spray Adhesive in my garage and my headliner was falling down in the front so I pulled it down and sprayed a ton, but after a summer day in my school parking lot it drooped back down by the mirror. lol.

Re: Black Headliner
That looks pretty good for an expensive budget
I think I'll use your ideas on a droopy headliner in my old chevy town coupe.
