disconnecting electrical in center console
I am taking out my center console. I have the shifter plate off and have unplugged the power window switches. I still have the wire connected to the light in the center console and the cigarette lighter is still connected. How do I disconnect them?

cut the wires and put a butt connector with some electrical tape on the ends. Keep the cutoffs in case you ever want to reinstall.

Re: disconnecting electrical in center console
To do it right, there is a button on the ground clip for the lighter (look through the hole in the middle of the silver part) that has to be pressed with a pin before the wire can be pulled off, and there is a clip on the connector for the hot side that has to be depressed.
As for the console light, (which you don't want to break because the only way you can replace it is to either get it with a shift plate or pull a glove box light out of another car), there are 2 clips on the sides of the connector that hold the connector to the socket/switch assembly which have to be pried oped with an awl or something before the connector can be separated from the assembly.

Re: disconnecting electrical in center console
This seems petty but i'm at work and my car is home...when i take my console off and the wires are there, will the light for the shifter be easy to see? I imagine it would be but mine is so dull i want to replace the bulb and what size bulb will it be, thanks

Re: disconnecting electrical in center console
you dont need to take of the console, just the plate around the shifter and the bulb is right there inside it just twist it and it should come out
