Ok I rigged this door panel up to see if I would like it or not when its on the car , the panel itself was scrap so I did some quick glassing to fix that. I never worked with vinyl before so I had to put a seam up near the top which I do not like , but im going to try again with a helper when I remake the final version of these , speaker pod is custom made to the size of the door map pocket. 4thgen handle is fully functional and it was all pretty easy to make work. Don't mind the felt at the back im still working on fiberglass 'caps' for the rear of the 4thgen armrest. The switches are at a very nice location and the door feels much nicer to close.
looks like you put a lot of time into it.
not that hot about it though.
a little to sophicated - too refined.
that was a good look on a car with those lines but ours are a little more muscle than 4th gens.
the only thing i really like about the 4th gen parts are the seats.
but if you like it, great - its your car. im sure there are a lot of people who do not like mine.
and after a while you will love vinyl. it is cheap - $7.00 for a yard 54 inches wide. just be sure to make a pattern and save it - that way you can change it out without any problems.
im making a set of pieces with big flowers on them to change out for my grand daughter when she rides with me - she likes sunflowers. a little gay for me to ride around in all the time but a few minutes to change out and she loves it. even made some pieces with her name in them. kids like that.
Well the door panel itself is a stock thirdgen panel so its not so much different then stock , just with the 4thgen add ons but goes with the rest of my swap. I have maybe 2.5 hours into it tops , thats with handle installation/modification.
I like it.....a little more refining and it will look factory. Should be sweet with your dash! If you can, try to get a pic from the pass side of how the panel looks with the door closed. I want to see it next to the dash. This may be an option when I do my dash swap!

I am not too much of a fan of fiberglass on the doors.
Overtime I have ran into cracking issues, 3rd gen doors are already too big and heavy!
I noticed some "lumping" in the vynil on the back edge of the insert.
Are you using a heat gun when you put on the vynil?
Are you using a felt backed vynil?
You could move that seam towards th front lower corner, less noticable.
Since you are working with fiberglass, if you could smooth out that top edge of the insert to match the curve of the door handle trim, it might flow better
Are the switches functional?
I have a 4th gen as well an I keep putting my hand towards the console when I want to lower the windows!

Yeah I used a heatgun , my first attempt I used felt instead of vinyl (passenger side) but opted for vinyl to see what it would look like. I dont like any seams at all , but this is the first time I have worked with vinyl so I expected flaws. For the most part im digging the black felt door panel instead of the vinyl so I will most likely go with felt again. As for felt backed vinyl I can see why you ask , it would hide the blemishes in the door panel shell that are visible.
As for the fiberglass I only used it in small areas where the door panel had a hole from the old handle , and where there was damage. I'm also using it for a caps so that the cut end of the arm rest doesn't show. I have been looking at it over the weekend and I think what I might do is build up the panel near the back of the armrest to make it just flow into the back of the arm rest rather then the cap at the back.
Like I said this is a mock up so keep the opinions coming , thanks.
Switches are functional , but not the mirror switch as I dont have the connector.
i went on his public profile to see the rest of his interior but i cant find it to see. if its all 4th gen inside then the doors will fit right in. prior remarks are hereby revoked.
but instead of using a glue gun i like to use 200 mph tape.
for those of you under 40 - that is duct tape. never lets go and you can pull it on and off with ease.
pull it tight and tape and if you dont like the look lift the tape pull it again and tape again. no heat, no glue, no gule on your hands or the front part with the nice looking material, which now has glue on it.
just a nice looking product. no one is going to see the back anyway.
I like it alot. I cant wait to see what the outcome is when its all finished. Very good sense of style you didnt overdo anything and it almost looks stock.
I like the speaker in the old map pocket location, but I think the stock door handle and armrest looks better.
I'd like to see it C6 style with no armrests and just a small little door handle to pull the door closed. I think it's great whether anyone likes it or not. If it doesn't work out fine, but at least you've help plant the seed for someone else to take it further. Good one bud.
