Just got an etched glass window... HOW DO I PUT IT IN!!?? - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

I just got a SICK etched glass window... but before I decide to rip into my door panel and take out my passenger side glass... I was wondering... just how hard is it to do? cause i dont want to rip apart things and get way over my head. its an 89RS with power windows.

take the door panel off and see what bolts hold the window in place.

What kinda etched glass?!?

Could be a form of "tinting". Etch the glass a slight bit so it gives a frost look, making it hard to see through the window. I had a buddy do this to his (Not a 3rd gen) and did it so he did not have to worry about tint bubbling or peeling, but got harassed by the cops all the time though.

I'd like to know what your doing with this though, please post pictures if you can.

i love etched glass! id like to see some pictures. once i find some factory untinted rear windows for my tahoe im gonna etch em up.

yeah the glass is etched... id love to put some pics up of it... its got like one of those 70s cartoony cars with a monster in it with the crazy shifter comin up out the roof and it says "pops toy" in curly etched lettering. since im not a father yet idk if im going to put it in... NAH hahah its too sick NOT to put in. and yeah id love to post some pictures... gimmie a day or so. OH and after i pop the door panel theres alotta crap that needs to be taken out and messed with and dissasembled... is this a job for a shop? im not new to messing with stuff and im mechanically inclined... but i dont wanna make sh*t worse!

I have yet to go behind my door panels but will be (once I install my new door locks), but have heard it is fairly easy, just time consuming.

Just be careful when you take the old glass out. It's heavy, and you don't want to cut your arm off because the scissor lift mechanism falls while you're taking things apart in there. I don't know if you have to remove the window motor to do that but, if you do, somewhere on here is a door motor tutorial you might want to read.

Looks very cool nice art work. I have to replace my drivers glass long story make it short there is a difference between hardtop and t-top glass. Anyways you are gonna have to take the whole door apart. The small triangle in the front (i forget what the name is) needs to go. All the window felts need to come out, the outer window felt needs to come out. And if i remember the window motor is riveted to the door so your gonna have to need patience and work the glass off the scissor lift. The reason to remove the triangle thing (again sorry i forget the name) is so you can take the window out of the door through its opening it is the widest part. you might have to pull the opening the window comes through just a little to get the glass out just make sure not to bend it.

I like it too. does anyone else have an etched window? even on some of the sickest cars ive seen i dont really see much glasswork... thats why i wanna put this in so badly.. its just something you dont see very often and im hoping it will seperate my car a bit from the rest.

Im at a standstill. upon removing the door panel I saw what I like to call SATANS RIVETS holding in my window glass

I have zero idea how to remove them. Ive tried spinning them and bashing them with a hammer ive done everything except doing it the way it needs to be done... cause evidently i dont know how... has anyone removed these beasts? please tell me what kind of ritual you did to remove them.

Upon attempting top remove satans rivets... I shattered the old passenger window. EPIC FAIL!!!! however... I did put the new window in. pics tomorrow.

i would like to see are rear glass etched

there used to me a guy in New Orleans that eched glass all the time one 18 wheelers and motorhomes, he was kickin, real real good with what he did, and all he ever did it for was booze ......... if he wasnt in the bottle so much and got his act together (he may have) he could of made some real $$$$ off of his art work

hmmmmm now thats got me wanting to see a back glass etched

If i could get an etched rear window I would etch jesus playing black sabbath on his guitar while on the back of a whale... the whale would have rabies and would be attacking small frightened children... cept this whale would have like daddy issues... making him dangerous! now that would turn heads! and attract mad ladiesssss

and for all of you who are like "how would you know what jesus is playing if hes etched in glass?? well you would JUST KNOW. like you would get that gut feeling that would make you go "HOLY S**T I THINK JESUS IS PLAYING BLACK SABBATH IN THAT ETCHING!"

the scissor lift isnt sharp... it wouldnt cut my arm off. it isnt even heavy. lol. and i knew the old glass was heavy... so's the new glass that i had out! and no.. I diddnt need to touch the motor.. but thanks.
