Fog Light Switch mounting

Brother-in-law got into a previously-loved t-top 87 IROC; he's wanted one for an while. I stopped by and we read the ECM codes and talked engine stuff.

Question: He's got the fog light switch that came with the car, loose and uninstalled.

In the back of the trim piece behind the headlight switch **** (#44 14064962 PLATE. Instrument Panel Trim), it looks like the fog light switch bolts to the back of it with 2 screws. Is that right?

Are those a standard M5 or 10-32 machine-type thread? Or maybe a dual-pitch plastic threader type screw?

Are the two plastic pedestals on the back of the trim piece supposed to be the same height?

How does the headlamp **** pull out? I'm used to GM switches with a release button but didn't think to attempt it at the time.

Easier to pull the stem out, than the ****.Just look in there youll see the release button.
The two mounting post are different heights, the bracket on the switch will reflect that.
Two short 7mm head screws, I thnk one is shorter due to the post variance.Dual pitch type.I believe similar to the defroster switch screws.......maybe.

Re: Fog Light Switch mounting

Triggering the headlight switch shaft release might be easier through the gauge cluster location... there is a hole in the plastic once the cluster trim is removed. I don't recall if there is enough room without removing the cluster.

The screws are not machine screws, but coarse plastic threads.

Looking at the fog light switch should confirm the mounting bosses are different height or the same.

Re: Fog Light Switch mounting

You can reach the release from below, where the fog lt switch resides.A long flat blade will do the trick.

84 1LE,
What tail lights are those in your avatar? They look like they have extra bulbs or something?
