lt1 performance question

whats the max rev on a f-body stock lt1? i had my pcm tuened for 6000 and when i get on it hard my aftermarket tach bounces rev limit at about 5800. i know factory tacs in those fbody cars showed 5500. also, when i get down on it hard and it breaks traction its bouncing rev limit and keeps spinning. when i let go of the gas it shifts into second, any idea why? or what to do to fix this? 95 lt1 w/ 4l60e

My 700R4 hits the rev limiter now, because 2nd gear is gone. Your tranny is probably going out, take it to a transmission shop and see what they say. My brother who blew up 3 '95 4l60e's in a month would always hit the rev limiter again and again, right before a gear went out. My brother ended up spending big bucks and had the tranny built right, hasn't had a problem since.

You don't want to go more than 6000 rpm on a stock LT1.

I know of one guy who shifted his LT1 in a '95 Formula at 6800 with the stock bottom end, I have my rev limited set at 6200.

I know of one guy who shifted his LT1 in a '95 Formula at 6800 with the stock bottom end, I have my rev limited set at 6200.
if you have cam and mods to support higher rpm power, you can go that high. on a stocker tho, peak power isnt made much over 5500rpms.. its pointless to go much higher than 6K

True, this motor had a CC306 and a set of MTI ported LT1 castings in it. Mine still pulls strong through 6200 on a stock engine though.

But he was asking what max rev was on an LT1, just putting my 2cents in it hehe

It sounds like the 700R4 in my original Firebird did when the pump started going out of it. It would shift all the way to 1st no matter how fast I was running and I ended up blowing up the engine.

the problem im having is when i take off hard, spinning tires the car hangs in first rev limiting and ofcourse spinning, the only way i can get 2nd is to stop spinning by letting off the gas, then it shifts into second, i havent held the gas long enough for it to stop spinning on its own, i dont feel comfortable with it pinging 6 grand constantly

Try manually shifting through the gears to see if you have 2nd? That sounds exactly like what my no-2nd-gear tranny does.
