lt1 cam swap questions
i was searching for a good cam for a lt1 thirdgen. "or my money pit should i say" i came across a old thread on another board where a guy was selling a comp cams cc306 230 / 244, .510 / .540. he claimed it made 357hp to the tires on stock heads. doesnt this sound a bit high for just a cam swap on a stock engine? he didnt say he had other mods...

Re: lt1 cam swap questions
I was going to go with the 306 cam, but when I found out the power doesn't come on until like 3500rpm and pulls to 7k I backed away from it. Yes it sounds mean as hell at an idle but just not practical for street use. I started looking at the XFI series of cams that Comp makes and they are actually better than the 306.

Re: lt1 cam swap questions
A 306 is a waste when not porting the heads IMHO. If you want a good cam get the cc503 or cc502. Thats about as big as you would want to go on stock heads without porting them. I have read on the Hot cam making 320rwhp. Good cam and can get by with out a stall if you wanted to with no cam surge. Bigger is not alwasy better.

Re: lt1 cam swap questions
Any cam swap you would be best going with new springs, retainers and roller rockers (just to make the most power) possibly new pushrods.
You might want to look at the XFI line of cams, better idle (still lopey) and the XFI280 or 292, more lift with a 1.6 rocker more duration which brings the torque curve down alot on the engine.

Re: lt1 cam swap questions
Alot swear on the beehive springs that comp makes and you can go with either a 1.5 or 1.6
check this link

and click on the GM LT1<4 will show you all the cams available for the LT1 and LT4

Re: lt1 cam swap questions
You can use the beehive or the crane 10308-1. If you want the most out of it use some good 1.6 roller rockers.
