1994 lt1 swap


1.) where does the steam tube that runs from the back of the heads to the front of the block go to?

2.) im using the stock third gen radiator, and i have all the tranny lines into it, and the two radiatior hoses going to the water pump, i have one open inlet or outlet and im not sure if its needed or not, its on the pass side, below the over flow hose, and between the upper tranny line inlet, its a fairly decent size spot, im not sure if theis needs to be plugged or what goes there?


3.) also have the small outlet on the water pump, on drivers side that im not sure what needs to go there?

On the "earlier" engines (pre-'05?? '06??) the steam tube from the back of the engine comes forward (under the intake manifold) to meet a corresponding steam line at the front of the engine. From there, it's theoretically supposed to be plumbed into "the highest part of the cooling system" - but I've seen people who have drilled & tapped a hole into the top of the water pump that claim that it's working fine for them. (Doesn't seem like the best approach in my eyes, since it's actually going downwards rather than up, & every time you replace the water pump you'd need to re-drill/tap...)

Others have replaced a section of their upper radiator hose with a piece of metal pipe of appropriate size & brazed a fitting into that (which is what I'll probably do), and others have had a fitting brazed into their radiator. (That last one is probably the most "technically correct", but since I'm using the stock radiator with it's plastic end tanks...)

(The "later" engines -starting in either '05 or '06- did away with the rear pair of steam vents, so they only have the front pair of vents connecting together in a tube - but that still needs to be connected to some part of the cooling system as described above.)

1. Steam line goes to the radiator, on the 4th gen radiators, there was a nipple to connect that to.

2. Can't help you on this one, I used a 4th gen radiator, but it could be for a low coolant sensor.

3. This line usually went to an inlet at the bottom driver side of the 4th gen radiator.

The smaller nipple was used for the heater hose return. You should be able to use it for the steam line.

My Berlinetta #2 has a low coolant sensor in the passenger side tank, but the car doesn't use the sensor. Not sure how that happened, but the car had almost 300k miles on it when I got it. Who knows what was replaced over that time.

So i can route my steam tube into the drivers side water pump opening that i have? or on the radiator i can route my steam hose into there?

the back of the heads were the steam tube went, been like that for a few years no issue at all
