LSX Swap Finishing

I recently just purchased a lsx 376 engine and planning to have the swap done by mid january. I will be away at school a lot so it will be updated slowly. So far i bought a ls3 intake with 7 miles on it from berger. I have a 92mm nick williams cable throttle body on order and doug thorley shorty headers on order for it. I am just trying to collect all the parts before i drop the engine in the car. I will post pic of the engine bay tomorrow. keeping the motor kind of mild for a little while until i get a better job. here are some pics of the motor.

Re: my LS swap

If I could find some valve covers like that and they said 364 instead of 376, I'd have to buy a pair and figure out a way to relocate my coils. Those are SICK!

Re: my LS swap

right now i am with the headers and complete intake with throttle body i am about 5500. i got a deal on the motor for 4k and the motor is brand new. Been parting out my old setup so right now i have nothing into this motor. i will need to spend some money later on when i install my procharger, but i am going to run all motor for a little while. In a few months hopefully change the cam out with the thunder racing cam 224/236 117 lsa smog friendly cam.

Re: my LS swap

now on to the engine bay, it has been a pain putting the hawks mounts in almost done with that. I did an ok job painting it, but i do plan painting the engine bay some time down the road again. Anyone know if i can use the stock throttle cable or do i have to get a ls1 throttle cable? not the best pics coming from my iphone.

Re: my LS swap

I dont believe a TPI cable will fit since where it mounts on the throttle body is now on the other side.

I just got in my LS1 swap cable I ordered from Hawks....which is just a 36in Lokar LS1 throttle cable. I am actually very happy with it, its a very nice(AND SHINY!) piece.

Re: my LS swap

ya ended up buying a gm 98 ls1 cable without traction control. I will hopefully drop this motor in next week. just having a little trouble getting the motor mount adapters bolted to the k member. I already have the bottom screws in but the upper ones are a real pain. little bit better picsName: PICT1137.jpg

Why did you go with shorty headers as opposed to stainless works long tubes?

Looks like your at about the same place I am in my swap. Guess I should really consider doing my A-Arm bushings so I can get the motor mounts in easier.

I bought 2" hawks longtubes on monday, so shorty's are out.... Was going to do it for emissions reasons. But my last setup wasn't emission legal even though it passed smog, just decided to go for it. If it doesnt smog i will just register it in a different county....

Does that engine cradle revolve or spin the engine around? Looks like it does. Do you know the make or model?

canton racing sells them. And thanks, looks like i am going to run without the procharger for a few months. but i am sure it will still make some good power on all motor. i hope those headers can pick up some hp...

Man, that looks great! Have you decided what to do with the coils yet? I think I am going to get a set of those valve covers for mine. I don't think my pro-magnum roller rockers are going to clear my stock valve covers. Keep up the good work.

Re: my LS swap

i am going to mount the coils on the firewall with some brackets that are on ebay.. i am only into about 2 grand because i parted out everything from my old setup except the procharger. i need about 2 grand to finish everything up. I bought the engine new for 4 grand and i already had a pro built pro street 700r4 from my previous setup with only 500 miles on it, that is why i have a 700r4 still. i have been pretty lucky on how cheap the swap has cost so far. this is also the first time i have ever done a engine swap on my own, feels good.

How did you do the 700R4 with the LSx engine?! I thought you needed to run an electric 4L60E with an LS engine?

If you search you will find a few people that used 700R4's with their swap.

Your car is really turning out nice. I may have to look into that bracket for the coil packs on the firewall, because I'd totally do that if I could find a set of valve covers like that where they said 364 LS2.

Thanks for all the complements everyone! made a little bit more progress. Finished cooling lines and heater lines. Finished the rest of the fuel system. Torqued the flexplate bolts to the torque converter. Hopefully tomorrow ship out my harness to Pocket to get molded together. here are some updated pics...

your swap is looking real nice, i really like those valve covers

which ECM are you going to use? remember your 376 comes with a 58X reluctor wheel generally used with electronic throttle body controllers

I think I am going to copy your method with the heater core lines. I had mine with the 90* angles coming right off the water pump. But the way I have it has the lines going directly over the head which creates a problem when I get around to I stalling my fuel rail covers.

I am assuming the LS3 intake manifold has no provision for a bracket for the throttle body cable? You going to make something that will bolt on using the intake bolts or the TB bolts? Also which LPE box are you referring to in your previous post?

I am using the sdpc cable bracket, not in the picture. I also i am using a stock ls1 map sensor, where the ls3 sensor goes with a custom bracket. The lpe box is the 58x to 24x signal, since the motor came with a 58x crank. It easier than ripping the motor apart to put a 24x rect wheel.

I believe he might be using something like this in the link:

And here's the LPE box:

Actually the bracket is a little different than the slp one, it bolts to the back of throttle body. The slp one doesn't clear the ls3 intake cover.
this is the one i am using: http://sdparts.com/details/scoggin-d...enter/sd90brkt

The upper hose is from a 3.4 99 v6 camaro, and the bottom hose is from 82-92 camaro, pretty much a straight hose because it is extremely short. lots of cutting to fit "be cool radiator" . hopefully it works ok.

Re: LSX Swap Finishing

crappy pics...iphone, but i made the cold air intake, and relocated the coils. you wont really be able to see them in the pics but they are up towards the front of the engine. just need to make my wires and still waiting for throttle bracket, its been like a 5 week wait.

Re: LSX Swap Finishing

Nice job on the intake. Very interested in your placement of coils. I am going to do remote mounting of mine as well. Are you going to mount them on the frame rails just in front of the engine?

Re: LSX Swap Finishing

well i bought some relocation brackets on ebay, very quality. i believe they where like a 100 bucks a set. right above the 45 degree bend for the cai you can see a drilled hole for the mounting bracket the other doesn't show up in pic. the other side has holes right below the overflow tank. It was difficult to find a spot that is out of the way to mount the coils. i will be back feb16th to finish the remaining things i need to do before tuning, so i will be able to shoot better pics of the coil relocation.
