I think most everybody just uses what is known to work. Is it really that much of a hassle to lower the engine to check for clearance with the oil pan you have? Who knows, you may have found another solution and it only took about 1 hour of test fitting to find out.

Based on pics just posted in another thread a couple days ago (i.e. read the forum!), the CTS-V pan that I believe you're referring to sits about 1.5-2" lower than the k-member. The last thing you want is for the oil pan to be the lowest thing under your car. That's just asking for trouble. The f-body pan is the only GM pan that fits in the car and doesn't extend below the k-member. Holley and Mast both have aftermarket pans out now that look like they'll work well though.

Autozone oil pan? Are you referring to the Pioneer pan part # 501085 ?
That appears to be a stamped steel pan and Im not even positive how they can sell that to fit an LS1 application. Unless their picture and description are incorrect, which I wouldnt put past them.
But given the price, Im guessing its just a stamped steel pan. The LS1 pan is intergral to the front and rear covers lining up. Between that and the way oil pick up sits, I wouldnt use it even if it did bolt up.
Just keep looking for a used LS1 pan and you'll find one. Or if you know someone that can weld aluminum for a decent price, get the pan you have already modified to fit.
