I removed them when I replaced the struts. I like the open look better. Just personal preference. As for the driver side header, the headers on the car are A.I.R compatible. That open port runs up to the stock intake. As you can tell the stock intake is not on the car anymore, rendering it useless.

It was for the heatstove/ thermac, used to run from the heatshield on the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner housing to preheat the intake charge, my understanding is that it was for cold weather emmissions/ drivability, exhaust gas didn't pass through it.
