A journal about my 84' base firebird

Well, to start off, this will be a log of work I plan to do, work I have done, photos and misc. other crap. I am looking for help, suggestions and support.

Today I passed NJ emissions, with half the vaccum lines dissconnected. What the hell, Will post the numbers later. Fuel additives seem to work well or something, New O sensor, new plugs and wires, Fuel additives: STP cleaner?, seafoam and fuelon "all more than required amount, by non signifigant portions" Now this car has only had 2 tanks of gas run through it, after 2 years of sitting unused, possibly run intermittently.

Failed for safety, needs exhaust bracket "hangers don't work anymore??" alignment "$65 at the place i'm going to, "and a rear brake job, can do myself?"

Mind you, just slammed new "less rusted" doors on it "they don't have holes in the sides like the originals did." They're not aligned, so, hard to close but passed for that because when closed they latch properly. "going to do it properly when I run the wires to add the power locks, my 87' had them but the 84' didn't. The lock button will be located on the center console by the window switches, instead of the stock door positions.

Anyway, thats all for now. Red,black two tone with crappy painted all black doors.

Re: A journal about my 84' base firebird

10 day trans check, everything is fine. need to adjust doors, they havent been touched since I whipped them on. Need to glue the carpet on in some spots of the interior panels, need to vaccum and carpet clean the inside. Installed the jvc exad radio, took a lot of modding because my universal mount wasn't quite right. May not have even been for an Fbird. Need to get a powerlock switch and mod the center console to hold it, then wire the locks up. need to change the tail of the hatch over to my 87's with the stock spoiler, figure out the vaccume lines, remove the d/ced a/c parts, flush and clean the coolant, clean the reserve tanks and replace the peepee juice motor for wipers. clean the engine compartment and figure out the jumbled directions on doing the timing. and figure out where the hell the distributer bolt thing is, to loosen and turn accordingly. need to switch to 4th gen belts. finish the door weather stripping. Finish removing small bits of rust, prime and paint. rig up the CAI/ram air into the front bumper, remove the front seats and finish removing rust on brackets before it fubar's the carpet.

Thats all for now.

Edit:

Re: A journal about my 84' base firebird

Wonderful. Had an operation on thursday morning. They F'ed it up and I have been blind till this afternoon. Left eye is fine, cornea is really messed up in my right, it got scratched -really- bad. So, both eyes closed since then because if you look left, both eyes go left. right eye needed dead still.

Anyway, pain, no biggy. Blind, horrible. Broke from insurence crap, Lawsuit.
"been living on water and puddin since thursday"

How it relates to the firebird. Just found out at 11pm tonight sunday june 22 2008. Someone either vandalized my car, or hit and ran. Taillight is broken, dunno what else. Why??????? I got royally screwed, no junks in this area have one, my deductable is what 3 of em cost "provided thats all the damage" and my last resort is hoping classic industries has one.
After my doctors appointments tomorrow, then paying aamco a bit more on my trans. I'm going to get pictures for insurance.

BUT!!! what the hell, its an old Fbird, go knock over the for sale motorcycle acrossed the street, its 20ft away. maybe fubar the expensive cars. this damn thing was right outside my house, of which I haven't been at due to 24hr care since I been blind.

Anyway, add this to the alignment and brakes I can't afford but need to pass inspection. and my gf's tires which need mount and balance. then alignment.

$60+/- for mount balance $60+/- for alignment ??for Fbird brakes "hoping I can do myself as soon as bandages are off, "can't wait the 2 more weeks to heal" And now a tail light +w/e else.

I hope it was a HnR because Vandals are pathetic. Plus one day they'll get whats coming to them...

Edit: It was parked right where it is in the above pics, Don't move it far from there. My fav spots were under the tree and where it is. Guess i'm gonna have to move it to a safer place.

Re: A journal about my 84' base firebird

well, luck has it my way. The weather was nicer, vision a little better and very very faint scratches in the bumper. Had to get right up on it and brush it a bit, the contractors will be hearing from me tomorrow and paying for a new light.

.....anyone got one for sale? i'll take a set please.

edit: packing was taken out, eye was checked and almost healed so vision is good. damn cornea, swelling is down and no bandages, no more hydromorphone -aka.- "dilaudid" which was needed for my face.

now, waiting on the bill that my insurance won't pay. dun dun dun, debt... The car will be getting its brakes and alignment soon, then a new rear diff plate "one with a drain or fill or w/e" because the diff is so rusted, and probably fubar from no oil changes.

I still wish vandals would get kicked in the *****, every day, by jackie chan.

Re: A journal about my 84' base firebird

long time not posting, anyway. taken her to a few places, getting some work done. apparently they need a "specialist" to tune a carb.

New job for me i guess.. got new rear tails, will post photos as soon as installed and polished. never got the *** that hit me, know who it is but yeah. Its been too long and everyone keeps telling me to drop it. I still might not drop it. cost me $90..thats a lot of money.

getting reinspection, dont expect any problems, rear brakes getting fixed and i put in the exhaust strap.

Doors need aligned, tired of slamming them, any ideas on how to without buying tds's tool? I tried lifting the doors with jacks, all it did was raise the car a little.. stupid probably. guess i'mma search here and probably buy the tool, to use 1 time.

Re: A journal about my 84' base firebird

long time no post. she's un registered due to change of addy. never got around to it. insurance is up to date just cant drive her.

second inspection was done 7/31 and only the rear brakes were fixed. all that needed it really. cost me $177 with the inspection and i supplied parts. apparently the rears have 2 different sized shoes and i reversed them on the side i did. thats what happens in the dark i guess, stupid me and the fact it doesnt state it anywhere i saw. they are similar in size. ontop of everything inspection was a breeze. the last time she wasnt so good and the results are in post #2

The results will be typed below, and the "standard" can be seen in post #2 and doesnt change, the reading does.
She blew a:

NOx 596 "less than half of what would fail me"
HC 63 "5 below last time"
CO% 0.01 "half of last time"
CO2% 15.3 "2.8 more"
O2% 9.4 "6.9 more"

thats all.

Edit: removed a spacer from the pin that holds doors closed, then dropped the nut type thing down into the body of the car, got scratched up digging down in there with my arm all the way shoved into where the black vent thing is. was smart and removed the vent on passanger door and held the nut in place so it didnt fall. doors sag a little but close ok now. vision is perfect again except for almost invisible squiggly lines kind of like a "floater" which i have in my left eye, they're common most people dont notice and i hardly ever do for either problem. all is good and she will soon be trucking be back and forth to work. except in the rain till i get good tires and rear suspension repaired, she breaks free too easily and pulling onto a highway in rain got me almost sideways. *** in one lane front in another. first time taking her in bad weather on a highway so, oops.

Re: A journal about my 84' base firebird

sorry for the rezz. an update.
the girl has gone into the shop, about 2 months ago. lost my job and can't afford the $700 of $1400 that they want to release her. paid about $148 so far. believe she was hit in the front left by a snow plow but am not sure from what, AAMCO said they'd ding it back out for me.

she has had.
a timing chain, can't do myself.
a diff cover with plug, can't do myself due to rust, can do oil change next time now.
2rear wheel bearings
2 rear links
2 shocks, can do myself but just didn't have time.

they said they stopped checking out work when they hit $5000 and i couldn't afford it all to be done.
1 new carburator, said wasn't worth rebuilding. and several other things that i can't remember. I asked "if i don't have the carburator fixed, will it do any damage?"

i do need a difinitive answer on this. i can deal with trouble starting and stalling when cold and idle. but not expensive damage.

thank you everyone,
Sean H.
