White-lettered tires FTW! (new pics added)

Just got some new tires on yesterday and I specifically asked for the white-lettered tires...I think they look great! This is the only picture I have right now, but I just detailed the car, so I'm going to go take some pics with my D-SLR later on, so stay tuned!

Re: White-lettered tires FTW!

Thanks! I had them on a few cars prior to this one and they held up great, and I remembered that they came with white-lettering, so I figured I'd give them another go.

Re: White-lettered tires FTW!

good reason!

I'm going to making the plunge ASAP, and I'm trying to decide between the goodrich and the firehawks. The firehawks get better ratings, but the goodrich's have the LOOK

Re: White-lettered tires FTW!

I also just got done putting on some red pinstripes between the white and sand gray color...looks pretty cool! Definitely different and subtle. Today was much too bright to take pictures of a white car, so I'm waiting for the sun to go down a little more. Most likely I'll be posting the pictures tomorrow.

Re: White-lettered tires FTW!

I love the white letter tires. To me, it's part of the fun of owning a 3gen. They look cool too, when you're cruising down a city street - kind of a 'flashing' effect as you go by. Looking forward to more pix!

Re: White-lettered tires FTW!

Believe me...I know all about taking care of white-lettered tires. I'm SUPER **** when it comes to detailing my cars and keeping them as clean as I can...and when they get a little dust or if it rains, I wash it.

Anyways, on to the pics...yeah, I got back a little earlier than expected, SOOOOOOO here's a few of the better pics that came out (just learning on my D-SLR camera):

Awesome car! The tires and rims really set it off. It helps too that the paint's in fine shape

Re: White-lettered tires FTW! (new pics added)

Thanks! It's getting a re-spray though, cuz the bottom gray color really needs it, but I want it BC/CC, and right now the car is single stage (at least I know the sandy gray color is). I'd like to do the entire car, including the engine bay. That is a long ways away though.

God she even looks better! im also **** about my car everything is spotless. and even if the car doesnt need at all say a coat of wax i still do it because i feel i can make it better. every night (if its not raining) i'll pull her out and detail sometimes 2 times a day. i use to wash my girl about every week but iv figured out since its garaged and just a bit dusty that there really isnt a reason to do a full wash, a microfiber cloth and spray detailer just does the same!

Thanks. I have 245/50/16 and Goodrich doesn't make a tire that size... that I could find anyway.

Re: White-lettered tires FTW! (new pics added)

I did the research yesterday, and found out if you want something slightly wider than the 215/65's, a 235/60 is a very acceptable replacement, within 1/10th oif an inch of being the same diameter of the originals, but still gives you more rubber on the road

Re: White-lettered tires FTW! (new pics added)

interesting... my 215's dont come close to rubbing, but maybe what I should do is get two 235's, put them on the front, and if they rub move them to the back, and then get 215's for the back

Re: White-lettered tires FTW! (new pics added)

Thanks! Yeah, they are '87 Monte Carlo wheels. They are brand new/refurbished. They look alright I guess...kinda makes the car look more like a Camaro or something, but they'll do for now. They definitely don't look like "Pontiac" wheels.

That is what I thought they were . They look fine on there . The backspacing of those wheels may be the cause of your rubbing .

Well what size should be on there? I'm pretty sure these are 15x7 with 0 offset. Not sure about the backspacing though.

Re: White-lettered tires FTW! (new pics added)

I just checked a spare wheel for my '89 and the measurements I took are from the center of the wheel to the bead area not includeing the small lip that sticks up past the bead area . The back was 4 1/8 in and the front was 2 5/8 in and they are factory 5x7 wheels .

Good points. That's the one thing about RWL (raised white letter) tires - there was a definite break away from them in the mid-1980's, making them look 'odd' on cars like the IROC-Z for example (partly due to the switch then to lower-profile tires). And they are a lot of work to keep clean. Oh well! To me they are a time-machine transport back to the days when 3gens first prowled the streets of the early 1980's
