My recently aquired 88 GTA
I just picked up an immaculate black 88 gta 5 speed hardtop. 0 rust, perfect mechanicals, Garage kept since new, 117k mi on the clock. Shes a keeper.
Highlights include:
New battery
New cooper zeon tires ~300 miles
Flowmaster catback
Anyway enough babbling on to the pictures
Car would be completely perfect if not for the missing rpo and drivers door stickers.
To do list:
Change fluids and filters
Replace power antenna (works but is bent and gets stuck)
Rear view mirror
Drivers side view mirror glass is cracked (I have NOS gm glass on the way)
Power mirror switch is a bit unresponsive in the left direction (clean contacts inside of or replace switch)
Replace door parameter, frame and hatch weatherstripping
Align hatch not to overhang quarter panels
Passenger side quarter marker light lens (Hoping to find a NOS gm one)
Straighten fender tabs
Subframe connectors
Rust proof entire underside
1 fog light and 1 reverse light are out
Install delco D1855B lower temperature radiator fan switch. (kicks them on at 205F instead of 238F as I understand)
Opinions / Recommendations are welcome.

That is a beautiful car. I'm probably not the person to say this given what I've done to mine, but I'd keep that thing as original as you can. That thing is museum quality.

Except that with me the body and the interior come first

Re: My recently aquired 88 GTA
Congrats. The paint is exceptional given the miles. Very nice engine compartment also. Never would have guessed the mileage given how nice it is overall. Someone took good care of it.
I love the hard top 305 M5 combo. Sweet.
Here's a good site with lots of GTA info.

Re: My recently aquired 88 GTA
Thanks for the link. I just swapped the original messed up rear view mirror with one that is near identical from my old jbody today.
Cant wait to get her up to my friends shop and take care of that sagging drivers door. (Its not that bad yet but its enough it dosnt close easily and a tiny bit of paint is rubbed off the side skirt) Bought some stainless door strikers from hawks for her while I am at it. Waiting to get the door alignment right 1st though.
As far as the paint goes she has had a repaint somewhere along the way. They did a pretty nice job though. No real complaints in regard to the quality of the paint work. The door jamb sticker is however missing. I did some searching the other week and I found that (http://www.ecsvin.com/) Is authorized by gm to reproduce them.
I will be ordering a door jamb and spid/rpo code sticker soon. (I think the console lid was replaced because I cant even find residue from the spid sticker) I would like to get her phs documented first though so that I can verify the data that is on the rpo sticker I order is correct.
My goal is to make her as close to showroom new (and stock) as possible which really shouldn't take too much. (I will however keep the flowmaster exhaust )
I would like to do stainless fuel and brake lines at some point. (Had a scary experience with my daily driver and a rotted brake line about 3 years back. Luckily the parking brake and rear drums were properly adjusted.)
Thanks to all who commented.

If you are going for stock original appearance, it appears your dash pad is from the 82-84 firebirds, no big deal, just wanted to know if you were aware of it. The early firebird dash is hard to come by in good condition. You could prob sell it and get a later bird dash for less money. Took me about 4 years to find 2 mint 82-84 dash pads.

Re: My recently aquired 88 GTA
That is one really clean GTA! Do you have any issues on cold start? Also, if you want to make the exhaust manifolds look good, you can try the ceramic coating from autozone. It made a heck of a difference in my engine bay. I actually sprayed them with them in the car, just taped it off well.
For parts you could try moderndaymuscle if you want NOS. They still have some stuff and I think the marker was one of them.
