Q-jet rebuild question????

I have an 86 Q-jet off of a truck and am thinking of trying it out. I want to rebuild this carb for my non computer controlled car.

My question is can I make this thing work with out a computer. I heard that these things have a map sensor in them or something. Can I delete this.

I don't know exactly if you could get a computer carb to work without the computer... I wouldn't recommend it though, if you're taking the computer out you will need to replace the distributer with one that has vacuum advance if you haven't already. If you want to stick with Q-jets, get one off of a 76-80 camaro or firebird. They started computerizin' in 81 I believe... also might want to check out if your plans are emmission legal in your area. You should be able to get a used one for 30-50 bucks and you'll want to rebuild it in most cases.

A computer controlled carb (like I think you just got- not quite clear on that) will never work correctly without a correct/functional ECM to run it.
