Need some ideas or motivation or something

Well I have about had it with my f-bodies.

The 99:

-Leaks oil somewhere
-Almost 100K miles so I know major repairs are comming
-Exhaust leak
-Tires are bald

91:

-Leaks oil...quite a bit
-Interior all needs replaced
-Tranny is starting to slip
-Tires are bald
-Rear brakes still dont fricken work including the e-brake
-Shitty gas milage

So what should I do?

Should I just sell the peices of sh*t and get something new with a warentee.

Or should I foot the bills to fix the cars?

I am done working on the 91 thats for sure. It will go to a shop.

crrllmich,

You have to realize that these cars are old and the fun part of ownership for this hobby is either restoring them or modifying them. Sure when things go wrong its gets frustrating but when things goes right boy what a feeling. Remember back to the reason why you wanted that vehicle in the first place. Don't lose your passion for the hobby, step back take a break and return when things calm down. Each and everyone of us have been in that same boat before. Right now you just have a lot going on at one time. You will get through it and be glad you did not make a haste decision.

I agree completely with the statement above. Mike thats all part of the deal when you buy these cars. Even though personally the 2 third gens i own(well 1 but i work on the other just as much) i have not had major problems only ones i asked for or caused. You know the feeling i had when i started the T56 swap to find out i had no help to finish it? During that week or so it was like the most lost feeling, i was hacking up a perfectly good car with a perfectly working transmission for no reason. Obviously there was but it was a lot of money i had on the line and it was the biggest project i put myself into. Joley's car its been frustrating too. Rusted brake/fuel lines all sorts of little problems its just how it goes with these cars.

I enjoy it for the most part and im happy with my car. Sure i could sell it and get something newer or faster but thats not all its about. I like owning an old car that i always can find something to do to it.

Mike, its up to you and its what YOU want to do. In my experiance and im being honest my camaro and my gf's have cost the least amount in repairs to any other car ive driven or owned. Repairs that is, not upgrades

100k should not mean major repairs if the proper maintenance is done. Is the exhaust stock? Rusted? Tires bald thats a no brainer. Get some pictures of the oil leak up here and we can try and help. Easy and common ones...valve cover gaskets, timing chain gasket, oil pan gasket. Clean it up and watch it run for awhile.

The '91 youve had for a long time. I know you posted a picture of a tranny awhile back whats up with that? Or was that a motor i forgot. Interior is easy, and there are plenty of good parts at the junkyard. Other then the 4th gen seats in Joley's RS that whole interior is pretty much from junked cars. All cleaned up, some stuff repainted was cheap and easy. About $100 in junkyard parts and ill be more then happy to get you a picture if you want it.

Gas Mileage...well how bad? Currently Joley's car has been getting anywere from 11-14mpg and it sucks so im working on that part now.

Im selling the motor and a bunch of other parts to pay for the repairs on the 91. I am just sick of working on the rear brakes mainly.

I wouldn't be so frustrated if such exspensive repairs wernt needed to be done.

The tranny repair will probaly cost more then the car is worth.

Plus both cars need paint...the 91 needs it pretty bad...

Thanks guys. I cleaned the car up today actualy made me feel a little bit better. Finaly I think the interior doesn't smell like brake fluid anymore :-)

God that stuff will make you want to throw up.

Heres some pics for Kris mainly. Clean interior.

And heres some pics of the new 1LE Aluminum brakes, 4th Gen 3.42 Posi rear, and the Dynomax Exuast (finaly quiet again)

You can probaly tell I used to have a open rear if you look at the left rear tire lol.

Thanks agian guys....

As an update...

Shes going into the shop as soon as I get my company truck back so I have somethingto drive. I am gonna have the shop fix the oil leak and fix the rear brakes. I am tired of screwing with them lol.

Then hopefully paint.

Hey Mike 100k is not bad on a 4th gen. A friend of mine has a 95 Z28 and it had 165,000 on it and still went low 13's in the 1/4. The only reason it blew was because he won the burnout contest at MIR a few years back. It was his own doing and spun 4 bearings. I cant tell you how many times I have been in the same boat your in or were in. I just did what one post said already let them sit and come back, you'll be gald you did instead of selling them both.

Mike dont be a puss like I did and sell my IROC. Although I am enjoying 34mpg, i just feel like there is now a void where my camaro used to fill.

I just had weird connections with my old 88. (build date was the month/year i was born lol)

It was a fun car, i never got into trouble with it somehow but it kept me amused whenever i drove it. Always kept a grin on my face haha.

-Geoff.

Ill be at crusin weekend in a VW
