HUA takes in 40 dogs rescued from puppy mill...
http://hua.org/blog/99-nebraska-mill...-will-survive/
As a life long animal lover this is something I needed to post, almost a hundred animals were taken from a recently closed "puppy mill" here in the Midwest. For anyone not familiar with the term a puppy mill is an illegal breeding facility that offers little to none of even the most basic medical care these animals need. Most are starved and over bred until they either die or are mutilated irreparably.
Unfortunately these operations supply the vast majority of all the pet stores in the country, so if you have ever bought a dog (or nearly any other animal) from any pet store they have most likely come from one of these places.
As a dog lover with 2 refugees from similar places I see the scars left by such inhumane treatment every day, our Chihuahua (Bubba) and Dachshund (Gracie) both suffered in these places for most of their lives.
Despite this they are two of the most loving and attentive animals either of us has owned.
We donated last month and have given more since to support the efforts of the volunteers, we intend to adopt another as soon as we recover from the holiday season.
If anyone is able to give even a dollar I personally would be grateful, if anyone happens to be thinking of buying an animal soon I ask that you consider adopting from HUA or any similar organization. People often tend to think of animals as disposable commodities and injured, crippled or deformed animals as "damaged goods" but I can promise you that adopting an animal that has suffered like these have the gratitude is palpable, you know that they appreciate you for all they have been through.
